I haven't been very good at this really, have I?! Admittedly, a lot has been happening and I haven't had much time to write again, but still.... I'll start from where I left off..... Halong Bay was really lovely. I was a little worried at first cos it tipped it down the morning we left, but by the time we got there the weather was hot and sunny! I spent some time sunbathing on our junk boat, we visited a huge cave (which was completely full of tourists, which kind of spoiled it a bit), had a day on Cat Ba Island and were taken to some lovely secluded beaches. At night we could see about 40-50 other junk boats in the same bay as ours, but it was still quite quiet. I also jumped off ... read more

Hello Again! Since my last post I have now made my way through Laos to Hanoi in Vietnam, where I am now. I would have updated sooner, but internet was very slow and expensive in Laos....plus I was having too much fun!!! My hill tribe trek from Chiang Mai was amazing! Coincidentally, there were 2 people from Exeter College at Oxford who were on the trek too.... I didn't get on with them that well though, turns out one of them had been given a grant by college to come on this trip through Vietnam, Laos and Thailand and was spending all the money on alcohol and amphetamine laced redbull! I was not impressed! The others were ok though and there was a nice girl called Sylvie that I got along quite well with. On the ... read more

Sorry it's taken me so long for this next update. I've been trying to get my photos uploaded and it's taking a lot longer than I expected! But if you want to see any, I've uploaded them onto Flickr and you can have a look here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/sarahm-g/collections/ I'm doing Thailand now, so hopefully they'll be up there soon too! Thailand has been fantastic! I was a bit scared at first, landing in Bangkok on my own, so I spent my first day in one of the big shopping centres and I soon felt at home! Bangkok I did quite like though - the Grand Palace was fantastic, as was the view from Wat Arun. The market on Khao San Road was good fun too and I managed to haggle for a few things! It was also ... read more

Well, I am now in Bangkok! The first leg of my trip is over, so I thought it was about time I updated this blog....and I think it might be a long one cos we did a lot of stuff on our Northern Adventure (as Chris called it)!!! So, I'd better start form the beginning. Helsinki was lovely and our hotel was very nice (a converted prison!). We visited Suomenlinna Islands, which is a fortress and world heritage site and Chris had a reindeer sandwich (while I sang Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer at him to try to put him off it....which didn't work). We went to a couple of museums and churches and had a walk by the harbour. It was quite a nice city with some pretty buildings. We got the hydrofoil to Tallinn ... read more

After about 3 years of planning, I've finally booked my flights around the world and I leave in less than a month!!! It's exciting, but I'm a bit nervous too and I still have so much to get organised! I do at least have two weeks off work before I leave to get myself organised. So anyway, this is my plan: Helsinki: Chris and I leave London Heathrow on Thursday July 30th at 18.20 for Helsinki, Finland, arriving really late! We'll spend a couple of days there having a look around and maybe going to one of the island restaurants....but not the Arctic Ice Bar, which sounded really cool (pun intended!), because you have to be 24 to get in! Tallinn: We're going to get the hydrofoil over to Tallinn in Estonia at some point on ... read more
