A dwindling cobbled path crossing a primary school with chirpy voices, and a rain shelter takes you down to the village center of Dhar from Altitude Moksha. After paying reverence at the Ghandiyal devta temple, walk down the steps to discover the village "Pyau". The word "Pyau" in Hindi is any place which people use to quench their thirst and rest in the heat. Mind you this is not some ordinary pyau, this is fed by the roots of 350 year old banyan tree. Towering above the Pyauis the Ghandiyal Devta temple along with this banyan tree resplendent with prayer flags and tinkling bells. Lots of Apples, tangy red Cherries and the smell of pine and conifers in the cool refreshing mountain air welcomes you to Thanedhar. Thanedar is located approximately 80Kms from shimla,the nearest town is Narkanda which is 14kms away. Apple cultivation was pioneered here by Samuel Stokes a social worker,who saw the abject poverty among people. All throughout this beautiful hamlet you will find apple trees with their boughs heavy with the bountiful fruit.You can drive around 68Kms from Shimla crossing Dhalli ,Kufri, Fagu, Theog, Matiana then to Narkanda. Thanedar is around 16 Kms from Narkanda. On the way to Ranikhet you will have a reliving Ruskin Bond kind of a feeling.The peace in this little cantonement town will really strike you. Pretty Victorian buildings against the backdrop of Pine ,Oak and Deodhar and you have the quintessential hillstation of Ranikhet. Ranikhet means a “princess meadow “ and true to its name its beauty wont escape your attention. A recce of the mall road and we can find beautiful accomodation in the Ranikhet Club or the Goverment Guest House. You will find pretty Victorian cottages dotting all along the town. An untoward landslide on the way to Ukhimath made my husband and me avert and pit stop at Rudraprayag.Rudraprayag is an idyllic stop for the pilgrims heading ti Kedarnath and Badrinath.It is located on the confluence of Alaknanda and Mandakini. A rekky route provided us with better knowledge and insight to this small little town.According to the Puranas Lord Shiva appeared in his Rudra(angry) form to bless Naranda who waa trying to appease him with his prayers. Honestly im not the spiritual types but its somehow always so intresting to find out the history of a place. After a breather to our aching bones we set out for the evening aarti at the sangam or the confluence of two rivers ie. Mandakini and Alaknanda. There were myriad hues for our senses to absorb. Chopta is a small town located at an altitude of 2900 Mtrs above sea level in the Garhwal Himalayasin the state of Uttarakhand. It is one of the many untouched pristine places which is any travellers peaceful dream , considered one of the most picturesque places in the Garhwal region. It is resplendent in various hues of red’s and pink’s of rhododendron flowers (Nov-Apr).There are around 200 diffferent varies of Rhododendron flowers growing at various altitudes known for their medicinal properties such as curing Heart Ailments and joint problems.
