Wow This journal entry was amazing-- thanks for sharing. I agree with Tom, to a point: until American history deals with both sides of a story we will never feel the accountability needed to learn from past acts. It's ultimately irrelevant that the NVA and VC committed atrocities, too: the bigger point is we both acted inhumanely, grossly so, and how do we prevent it from reoccurring in Afghanistan, Iraq, Israel/Palestine, Africa...
comment ca va? i just read all your thai blogs. verdict - NICE.
ALSO - game 2 - suns vs lakers. lakers are getting spanked. 3rd quarter right now and suns lead by 15.
au revoir and j'etaime to you both.
embassy is wack! I have to comment and relate to you that Embassy is WACK!.. I was there with my wife and a few friends from the states in 05.. From what I heard that Embassy is supposed to be the best place to party in Manila.. All I can say is.. WOW.. I never saw so much nuckle heads in my life.. The elbowing and the smoke was the worse.. There is this European lady in the front being a bitch if the males were not wearing a collard shirt. She must have not been there because she would have given Leroy a hard time.. One of our friends had to go home and pick up a shirt before they let him in.. The DJ's were hillarious, they kept repping the bay area too...The crowd would get all hype and excited like they were from the bay area (funny). The bar ran out of liquor.. Everything we ordered, they said it was all sold out.. How can a bar run out of liquor?? Just like you, that would be our last time going there hahah
Another reason to come to LA! Hey guys! I know you're halfway around the world by now, but I've only just managed to reengage with the blogs. Please forgive my delay in congratulating you guys for matching together, and at your #1 choice! That's so great...and just one more reason for me to visit LA. Man, California is really calling me now...I might have to make it a yearly trip. I can't wait to read more blog entries! Have fun, be safe, talk soon.
"crab circles" from the twilight zone.... Awesome pics...I continue to live the experience vicariously through your blogs.. Those crabs are most likely Scopimera or Sand Bubbler Crabs...they sift through the sand and eat all the small stuff and regurgitate these sand balls...not sure why the patterns but it is definitely is not random...
beautiful THAI FOOOOOOOOOOD! looks beautiful there. i always salivate when i read about your food adventures...well except for that one instance in buenos aires.
was there At Christmas and New Year. Stayed down at the nopparata beach end at the Aonang Buri. thought that the food court was great. Scenery good. Came back on 15th January. Off to Samui for a month next Monday.
thailand so we have been buying the same kind of dresses. :) over here it's P450 for the nice one and P350 for the cotton knit one. but you look nicer and cuter. tee hee. i love my baby and miss her, too. but... see you in paris. and keep those blogs coming. it's my way of knowing that you are safe. thought it would be nice if i got an e-mail too. :)
heart shaped rice -- so kewl! crab concentric circles -- amazing. climbing rocks even for king of the world -- scary. 2 hour massage -- yummy. hey, when you get back to L.A., want to go back to jackie for a thai massage?
Amazing Leroy and Melissa - Looks like you are having a ball. Vietnam looks like it's absolutely amazing! Can't wait for the details on Thailand. XOXO, The Flygares
thanks this birthday has been quite unique... extended family and friends -- really great.
that fish looks like what is considered a delicacy here. it is dried and it really tastes good. had some at tita gigi's house. but then, the ones i had may have been skinnier. and therefore, may have been some other kind of fish.
atis in ice cream?
museum is one sided War itself is an atrocity and the Americans were not alone. The VC and NVA themselves committed countless atrocities against their enemies, their own people and the people of their surronding countries. I doubt if you got to see any pictures of civilians murdered by the NVA and VC like the bodies of dead students on the grounds of the university in Hue during the Tet offensive.
so hungry Every time I follow up on your travels, I end up so hungry. Everything just looks so good. Well, except the South American intestines. But we'll just keep that in the past.
Water economy! Wow... it's amazing how common entire communities based on water economies and trade "routes" are in other parts of the world-- and how frickin creative and effective they are! I mean, you'd think those boats are held together with spit and a prayer but they're clearly stronger than they look.
We were on a cruise ship-- a full-size cruise ship --in the middle of the Nile and all these tiny canoe-looking boatsmen came paddling up out of nowhere, and started this whole barter and trade system. They'd throw shirts, dresses, tableclothes, whatever to the various floors of the ship (amazing aim, let me tell you) and you'd try them on or toss them back and yell for a different color, size, price.... Once you found what you wanted, you'd barter the price, tie the money in the plastic bag and toss it back down. If it landed in the water, no prob, they hand-paddled over and picked it up. It was wild; looks like this was too. Great posts!
the food.. is awesome!!!! (not much into fruits) but the fish, dumplings and springrolls made my mouth water!! sarap!! you guys are having a blast!! thats always good!!! =)
cheers!!
No more boards. No more rotations. No more pagers. We are done with med school, and we're out to see the world. Six continents. 15 countries. 10 languages. 54,417 air miles. 2 travelers. One! We are keeping this travel blog mainly as a travel diary for ourselves, but we also want to share our trip with family and friends. It's better than an interminable slide show at the end of the trip, right? We hope the travel blog becomes a great way for you guys to keep in touch with us (and to procrastinate)!
