HI! Sorry for being 'slow' with respect to the time lag. Can't wait to hear about Egypt. ...That breakfast above looks SERIOUS!! I just ate and I'm hungry all over again :)
What up cousins?
It appears somebody will definitely have some working out to do when they get back....those pancakes look serious.....send a brother a plate. Great talking to both of you last week...glad all is well...just booked my travels to SF for the big week.....we will get ignorant at the ceremony...you know how we do....run hard!!!!
Schedule soleus! our schedule is posted on our blog home page, but basically we leave paris on the 20th and will be in madrid on the dates you asked about (may 26-30). you could always meet us in madrid! maybe vueling.com has cheap prices? por que escogiste paris si vamos a estar en madrid???
Egypt and Mexico got jacked! I think it's time to give back the artifacts. London is stealing from everyone. Give my people back their history! (Unless it's a traveling show then I retract my last comment)
sOL
whole lot of pics of alcohol You guys must be having a great time. I'm envious. I'm stuck in the ICU for 2 1/2 more weeks. Will you guys be in Paris from May 26th through the 30th? My tickets are all bought and I'm ready to go. Starr will be meeting me in Rome. At the last minute her job kept her from coming with me to Paris. Holler. sOL
Time lag Hi Alea -- It's my last day in Egypt, and Leroy arrived in Paris this morning. I just got back from Orlando myself. The time lag with the blogs makes it a bit confusing, but our home page always has in bold where we are in real time. We'll post those blogs soon, but yes, we saw the Giza Pyramids. Leroy saw more (Soukhna, Saqqara) while I was gone. It was hot, but my mom's friend from high school hosted us -- so we've had lots of a/c and a driver to take us around. So spoiled, I love it!
On second thought.... Melissa's going to HATE Egypt-heat, now that I think about it! It's literally hot as Hell. If you have loose fitting clothes (skirts, loose cotton T's, etc) or can afford to buy it there, that's the time to break it out-- it's far, far, far cooler than any other form of dress... down to the head wrap, trust me.
bathrooms well, the invisibility was only in certain areas. and in places like the mall, there were lots of expats, tourists, and native women (although likely the more well off ones). maybe the mall is an extension of women's domain. i certainly felt at home in it. in general, i avoid shady bathrooms anyway. that underworld must be amazing.
What in tacky, technicolor h*ll is the Burj and why's it have a worm-like plastic hardback casing?? ...It sounds like country-side Egypt in that the women rule the home (our tour guide had a PhD and was very modern but while her husband was alive, he worked, grocery shopped etc and she existed ONLY within the confines of their multi-leveled home, raising the kids and keeping house. And she was fine with it. Said there was a whole underworld of women Western women don't experience.) ...So Melissa, I'm just curious: how'd you find somewhere to use the bathroom while invisible?
cheers, gov'na! London can definitely break the bank if you're not careful. Oh, and a quick word of advice - if you go to check out the crown jewels, know that they don't play around when they say "no photographs or video"...at least they didn't when I was there
blood mary is not the girl i love... well, i would think that v-8 with vodka would be somewhat interesting, although i haven't had a v-8 since trying it once at age 12 and nearly vomiting. i should have remembered that. it's exactly what it sounds like -- tomato juice and vodka, and i thought maybe adding salt would have made it better, but i was too chicken to try. the vodka was rough, because the juice did nothing to help it. not to mention i hate celery. i don't know what i was thinking, but i know better now.
oh no! peewee, how we wish we had known. angela just IM-ed me to say she forgot to tell me you were in dubai. we would have loved to meet you and had a connect. well, next time, right?
The details on these temples are amazing! Hey Meli, what's the story on the Bloody Mary? (I personally think they look like V-8 with Tabasco, which is just naaasty)
glad to see and hear that you all are still enjoying your jouney. Tell Melissa to give me a shout to let me know her plans when she gets to
florida. I know its a business trip if she wants to stay with her family she is welcome. Again I say just let me know. Love you Melissa oh and Leroy too.
one drink wonder i W.O.N. that drink when leroy challenged the table for the meaning of "Napo in the Fache" (proof of reading the blog, accdg to leroy). that was a great night =) especially since it was the only night i was able to go out. HI BETT!!!
bringing back memories I think Lou and I took the exact same tour! There were no stinging microscopic jellyfish though. What I remember most is the heart attack Louis almost gave me when he decided to swim off on his own. The boat was ready to take off and the other tourists tried to be helpful by pointing out every remotely brown person in the vicinity. By then, of course, Lou was the color of tar. They meant well though :). Lou took his sweet time and eventually made it back to the boat.
No more boards. No more rotations. No more pagers. We are done with med school, and we're out to see the world. Six continents. 15 countries. 10 languages. 54,417 air miles. 2 travelers. One! We are keeping this travel blog mainly as a travel diary for ourselves, but we also want to share our trip with family and friends. It's better than an interminable slide show at the end of the trip, right? We hope the travel blog becomes a great way for you guys to keep in touch with us (and to procrastinate)!
