My name is Amanda and I'm a senior Accounting major at Texas A&M University. This summer I'll be studying abroad for 6 weeks from May 25-June 29 in Strasbourg, France as well as taking weekend trips to various places around Europe. I love experiencing strange and exciting things so I can't wait to see where this summer is going to take me!

So this will be my final entry for my study abroad summer blog. Just wanted to say thanks again to everyone who made this mossible! I will never forget this trip of a lifetime. In 5 short weeks, I've ventured to 7 different countries, learned how to say "thank you" in three different languages, and ridden on every type of public transportation imaginable. But now it's time to go home, and I must say that I'm excited to be going back. After a quick splurge on Mexican food and Chickf-fil-A, it will be time to start dieting and exercising so eating whatever I wanted was fun while it lasted. Hope you guys have enjoyed my blog! Hopefully I can get some sleep tonight... it seems as if the crowd outside is pretty pleased with the latest ... read more

Well this is my final trip outside of Strasbourg that I'll be writing about so here I go. Rome was absolutely amazing! However, I just want to talk a little about our overnight train ride there... Imagine being stuffed inside a sauna barely as big as your average bathroom with 5 other people for 8 hours and trying to sleep and what you have is probably paradise compared to what this train ride was. I spent the night pressed up against two of my friends and didn't even have the worst end of the deal considering I wasn't on the end being pressed against two strangers. Woke up in the middle of the night to train conductors yelling very loudly in Italian about giving him our tickets. Woke up another time to the train lurching to ... read more

Well I'm back from my 3rd weekend travels, and a sad reality has set in that I only have 10 days left here. Time really does fly when you're having fun. So I haven't updated you in almost a week so I'll try and be as detailed as possible. We spent Thursday in Brussels, as I said in my last entry and visited the European Commission. It is interesting to see all of these EU buildings, but quite honestly they all seem to do about the same things to me, and its hard keeping their very unoriginal names straight. It's been especially relevant though doing all these visits right in the middle of this whole debacle with Greece. Our professor typically ends our question and answer sessions of our visits by getting in a heated debate ... read more

It's currently 5:30am, I'm running off maybe 3 hours of sleep, and we are all about to hop on a bus to Brussels, Belgium for a visit to the European Commission. My friends and I have thought about this, and including our stop in Luxembourg for breakfast, we will have been in 5 different countries this week. How do ya like them apples? But anyway Belgium is known not only for its waffles, but apparently it is the birth place of French fries AKA one of my top 3 favorite foods. I'll never be able to lower myself to the taste of Whataburger fries after today, I'm sure. After Brussels, we head off to Paris for the rest of the weekend! Can't wait to bask in the glory of the Eiffel Tower once again. So I ... read more

Finally finding time to talk about Prague, by far the coolest place I've ever been. I spent the weekend with three of the girls on my study abroad trip: Aly, Shelby, and Erin. We didn't arrive back in Strasbourg until about 715 this morning, and we then had about 50 minutes to dress up in business casual for our professional visit to the Mercedes Benz factory. After spending the previous 12 hours on a train, our appearances were lookin pretty rough, but we made it work I think. So I'll start from the beginning... Friday: We took an overnight train from Strasbourg, and got into Prague around 1030 am on Friday morning so that was a smart move on our part instead of spending all day traveling. Despite the fact that there were some snorers on ... read more

Ok so I have to be brief with this entry because I have 3 hours until I leave for Prague! Just as I predicted, this week has flown by and we have done all sorts of things we never thought we would ever do. Class was normal this week. I'm getting better about staying awake the whole time, and I really do find the subjects interesting. Monday morning we took a field trip to the European Parliament, and Tuesday morning we went to the Council of Europe. Both of these buildings are in Strasbourg so it was cool to see how much of political center Strasbourg really is. Tuesday night, Dr. Gaspar took us to Kehl, Germany which is right across the Rhine from Strasbourg. That was a really cute town, and we ate dinner at ... read more

Hello again! So I'm finally able to take the time to fill you in on my weekend. I got home from Germany around 830 last night, and after Skyping my mom and Sarah, I was too tired and just wanted to go to bed. Anyway, my trip to see Mona was great! I felt pretty adventurous taking the train all by myself. On my way there I actually did have to use the small of German that I know to figure out what train I was supposed to take from Cologne. This old couple was really helpful and just replied to me in English... clearly I wasn't a local. However, I misunderstood what they told me and ended up getting off the train two stops too early in the Middle of Nowhere, Germany. I was kinda ... read more

Hello everyone! Had our last class of the week today. I could really get used to this whole three days of class a week thing. I managed to minimize my sleeping time to about 2 minutes today. French coffee is no Starbucks. More like a Dixie cup full of foam. But other than that I am so excited becauseeee tomorrow is our first free weekend!!! I'm headed off to Bad Honnef, Germany to see my long time friend and sister at heart Mona :) The rest of the group is splitting up and going to places like Nice, Munich, Geneva, and Prague, and as much as I'd like to be going somewhere exciting with them, I really am so happy to have a relaxing weekend with my friend and her family, and I know I'll be ... read more

We started class today! It was quite the change from having been on the go non-stop for the past 72 hours. So basically a normal day consists of International Finance from 10-12:30 and European Integration from 1:30 to 4:00. Our first class is taught by Dr. Gaspar, the A&M Professor who is here with us on the trip, and our second class is taught by Dr. Ludwig Kreitz from the Universite de Strasbourg. Two and a half hours was a long time to sit still, but hopefully I will get used to it by the end of this experience. We have to take the tram to get to the university so that was a new experience today as well. But now that we know how to use it, it will be a lot easier to get ... read more

Just got home from a great first night out with the group. Club Seven was so much fun, and they played American music pretty much the whole time so we felt right at home. Happy 21st Ashley!! On our walk back to the hotel a homeless man, after hearing us speak English shouted "F*ck you mother f*ckers! You a**holes!" at us... We're pretty sure that was the only English he spoke, but regardless, that's no way to earn money, monseiur.... read more
