While in Whistler... Whistler is a fun little place. It's pretty, has the best mountains, but it's expensive and can be pretentious. As I've learned more about peoples travel preferences, I've come to realise that I just love holidays. Relaxing, girly, outdoorsy (to an extent... due to my level of fitness and fear I have a limit, but am willing to go a certain degree from my comfort zone), romantic, city, beach, resort, music festival, snowy, adventure and may even be looking at a cruise in the not too distant future. I just love to experience new places and am not too fussy on what that means. So long story short, I adapt to my surroundings and therefore while in whistler do as the rich do. In less than a month I was lucky to get ... read more

Galiano Island Adventure Following my glutenous trip to Vegas it was time to get back to being one with nature and spend some of my holiday time with my man (and some other couples..) It started on a Saturday morning, where I was pretty ill, perhaps down to the dread of cycling. I had borrowed a bike, which was amazing, but perhaps more of a cruiser than an adventure taking mode of transport. We took the bus to horseshoe bay from downtown vancouver. The benefit of cycling is that you get first on the ferry and you don't have to book in advance. Ferrys to the island on a long weekend are booked up early. Once we got to Nanaimo, we had to cycle to another ferry terminal to get the ferry to Gabriola. I had ... read more

After a long time I finally took the leap and left my job, which gave me a couple of weeks off. This was the first time I had a decent amount of time off without having to go to Ireland or meet family, so it was exciting :) I had a few "big" plans, which didn't come about, but a couple of the girls were free so we decided to hit Las Vegas. I always expected to like Vegas, but it blew me away. Vegas really is the Disney Land for adults... We stayed at the MGM which was incredible, the sheer vastness of these hotels would blow you away. Everything in Vegas is BIG.. We got a pretty cheap deal from Bellingham to Vegas, and the hotel was cheap too because we went mid week. ... read more

I'd always wanted to check out Bowen Island, so was pleasantly surprised when Kenny booked a night over there. Only 20 minutes on the ferry from horseshoe bay meant a nice short journey there. The island is a real little getaway from the daily hustle and bustle and our b&b was a real little hidden gem. The island is tiny and explored pretty easily. Our accommodation was overlooking Kilarney lake, so we went for a wander around the lake, enjoyed watching the humming birds drink water from outside our room and the eagles soaring over the lake. The village was a tiny street, but the restaurants were pleasant and buzzing, and there was a seafood festival in the restaurant we ate in. Sunday morning, after a delicious organic breakfast in our b&b we decided to head ... read more

1 day until I turn 29, so i wanted to write a little about the past year and the travel highlights. Happy to have extended my Canadian work permit it was time to explore this vast country a bit further and actually spend some cash on some of the trips I really wanted to do. Shortly after my birthday we had a voucher to go on a sea plane, so we took it over to Salt Spring Island. Theres not a whole lot to do here, but it's great for a relaxing weekend totally away from the hustle and bustle of city living. Saturday saw a market where vendors can only sell anything made or grown in Salt Spring. It was a busy little market. Speaking to locals we found out that hitch hiking was the ... read more

We went to Whitehorse in February 2009. We got a great deal on a package from Vancouver, including 2 nights accommodation from Air North. Our visit was primarily to see the Northern Lights, but there happened to be a festival on when we arrived, Rendezvous Festival. Lots of fun and entertainment in the city. Whitehorse is small, and sadly overrun with Starbucks, Walmart, all the usual chains. We went to see the lights on the first night and it was so snowy that we didnt see a thing. It was a bit of a waste of money, so Id definitely recommend hiring a car instead of going on one of the tours. The 2nd day we wandered around the town, and went to the hot springs, which were fantastic. The wind was wild and the snow ... read more

I had been researching this trip since I decided to move to Canada in early 2007, and it was the 1 trip I couldn't leave the country without doing. It was pricey, but absolutely a once in a lifetime trip. We travelled from Vancouver to Winnipeg, and the following morning took an early flight to Churchill. Churchill cannot be accessed by road, so it was either fly or take the train. Although romantic, the train took a few days and was expensive. My biggest fear, after not seeing the northern lights on a previous trip to Whitehorse was that we wouldn't see any bears. Saying that, on our way from the airport to the tundra we see 4 bears in the first 10 minutes. The day was amazing, the bears are everything you would imagine and ... read more
