lindsayabroad - Lindsay Anderson

Lindsay Anderson Hey everyone! I'm off to Africa on January 29th---I will be travelling around South Africa and Mozambique, then flying to London to meet Kate for a trip to Spain. I will do my best to give regular updates and hopefully upload pictures as I go, and would appreciate any and all emails sent my way, even if just to tell me about your day. I'll be alone for the first 2 months so any words from home/England will be great! I will soon send my greetings from Capetown....

Part Two Europe » Spain » Andalusia » Granada
Hello Again! (Yay for free internet!) I will now record the second half of my trip, which wasnt nearly as exciting as the first part, thank goodness. Still, some more interesting luck managed to sneak its way in. Once we got back into Kruger we spent 2 days driving from the very northern part of it to the very southern part, seeing some game we hadnt before so that was cool. Then it was time to re-enter Mozambique, at a MUCH busier border---we waited in an intensely crowded room which had giant cobwebs hanging from the ceiling and ants crawling all [View Full Entry]

Hola! It has been so long since I last wrote that I am now on a new continent, in a new country, trying desperately to speak a new language. The last leg of my Africa trip nearly did me in, and only now do I feel semi-recovered and ready to write it down. So here we go.... The last time I wrote I was at a hostel in Joburg waiting to go on my overland trip---the day after I transfered to the Drifters Inn, which is the overland company´s inn in Joburg and quite luxurious compared to what I had become [View Full Entry]

Hello all, I took the bus to Joburg today, and so far it's done little to impress. It's raining, and the power just came back on after having been off since I arrived at 3:00 today! My last 3 days in Swaziland were great, and I highly recommend that everyone go there if they can. The people are ridiculously friendly, and even a trip to the grocery store results in a few conversations. On Saturday we went to a jazz show in this incredible venue called House on Fire, which is a sort of art/sculpture gallery with all these mosaics, a [View Full Entry]

Swaziland.... Africa » Swaziland » Mbabane
Hello from Swaziland! The trip here was loooong, but I finally made it on Wednesday night. I first stayed at a hostel called Sondzelas in a game reserve that had been recommended to me, but it was AWFUL (a lot of potential, but the staff were grumpy and it had no atmosphere). After a day myself and a Dutch girl named Saane moved to Swaziland Backpackers, which is nearby and so much better. It's been cloudy here but hot, and the first day we were pretty tired and didn't get up to much. We went for a walk though and saw [View Full Entry]

Hello! I didn't mean for my entries to be so few and far between, but access to the internet has been a little tough lately. I'm writing from Durban, where I'm just spending a night before I head to Swaziland tomorrow. I spent the last week in the Transkei region, in an area known as the "Wild Coast," which has by far been the highlight of the trip so far. It is one of the most remote, unspoilt parts of the country and I loved every minute I was there. I caught a shuttle from the highway which took me to [View Full Entry]

Such a workout!
Cliff-jumping, Coffee Bay
Jumping at the river

Hi everyone! It's been awhile since I've written! After I finished my bungy in Stormsriver I had a bit of a tough week----for anyone who doesn't know, before I left the optometrist discovered I had a torn retina, which he lasered and fixed, and told me to come back once I was done in Africa. A couple weeks into my trip, however, I started seeing 'flashers and floaters,' which means retina trouble, so I went spent my time in jeffreys Bay and Port Elizabeth seeing optometrists and opthamologists, who found 2 small tears which they fixed for me. It was really [View Full Entry]

Hiking in Hogsback
Misty and mysterious, so very Tolkien
The labrynth. I walked it, meditated, and still don't know what to do with my life.

Hey everyone! I have had a busy few days and am now in Storm's River, a great little village which is slightly more rural than what I've seen so far. The people are very friendly and the hostel is good, but first I will tell you about Wilderness, where I spent the last 3 days. I took the bus from Cape Town to the Fairy Knowe hostel in Wilderness, which took about 8 hours. The hostel is in the woods, about a 25 minute walk from town (during which you pass many, many huge vacation homes). The rich white/poor black syndrome [View Full Entry]

Knysna, waiting to fly
Another paraglider, seen from our own spot in the sky
Elbrus, with his horses

Hello again! I am now heading into my fourth day in Cape Town, and I have had a great, and VERY HOT, time. The first day I felt surprisingly jetlag free and explored the waterfront with my new American friend Dana. It was nice but very touristy and just kind of reminded me of Granville Island. It was good to get out for a walk though and explore the city a little. My hostel in a few minutes from Long Street, which is indeed very long and full of shops, restaurants, and clubs, so it's proven to be a good spot. [View Full Entry]

Market, Cape Town
Penguins at Boulder Beach
Some very curious baboons

Hey everyone! After several rather disorienting and lonely days I have made it to Capetown, and it is hot, humid, and sunny. The trip went very smoothly, and the hostel bus was waiting for me at the airport and brought me straight here. It's early in the morning so not much is happening yet, but I got a lot of sleep on the planes and actually feel quite ready to tackle the day, despite the fact that it is actually 11 pm Canada time! I have already met a few people along the way, including an American woman on the plane [View Full Entry]
