The drive from Klagenfurt to Bled, Slovenia is only an hour and a half, so after lunch on a beautiful Saturday afternoon, Dani, Whitney and I squished into the car. (Euro cars are much smaller, and oh so much more sustainable than in the US). We drove a little ways past the town of Bled and into the Triglav National Park where we enjoyed a 20 minute hike (all uphill) to the most splendid waterfall. The water flows into the Bohinj Lake, one of seven Alpine lakes protected in this park. Please see picture descriptions for more details. A day in the life... For those of you who may not know, I moved to Austria to play volleyball. I still love the sport after four years of collegiate ball, and fortunately my body is still healthy enough to endure a few more swings, bruises and soreness. But I also came with the expectation to travel as much as possible within Europe and to emerse myself in a different culture. I've spent most of my life in the developing world (Argentina and Brasil); I lived in New Mexico for the past four years, and am now enjoing seeing the world through the eyes of another developed country. Dani, our assistant coach was kind enough to offer his tourism services on Saturday after we returned to Austria from training camp. We hit the road early in the morning and made it to the Croatian border by lunch time. We parked the car and strolled around the town of Novigrad until we found a place to leave our things, changed into our suits and drifted in the sea. It was a perfect late summers day. Not a cloud in the sky. After soaking up the sun, we jumped back in the car and drove a little ways further till we reached Porec, another coastal town.
