BULLA, Sorry for my tardiness on the blog...but here is a bit of an update on life in FIJI! Zara turned 3 recently and we decided to celebrate with a trip away - which is very easy to do when you live in FIJI. Local rates here are fantastic and I intend to take full advantage during out time here. Mum is here at the moment and we just had a few nights away at Natadola (intercontinental). Ok - so this is my favorite place so far in FIJI.... http://www.toberua.com/ - this is what FIJi is all about. From what all the locals and expats who have been here a while tell me that you need to go out to the islands to experience the "real fiji"...this was my first island trip and i'm sold. New Years Eve we had a Lovo cooked - basically an earth oven. What happens is they dig a pit in the ground then the food goes in and it's covered up. I takes half a day get this thing on - by the time they dig up the spot, get the fire going and then cook the food but let me tell you it was worth the wait...the food was sensational. We put 5 whole chickens in and a dozen lamb shanks and it all went - we had 20 people here. Before we ate the guys got the Kava bowl out - my first try and probably my last - doesn't do it for me i'm afraid (did make my mouth numb)...So Happy New Year...hope the new years is a great one for all. ... read more

Have a look at these photo's from Suva Market. This place is great - very cheap - about $125 Fijian gets us all our fruit and veg for a week - these guys come from their villages to sell. Think you are taking your life into your own hands if you buy the fish - no food standards - as you can see...a few weeks ago a lady with a dead chicken (feathers and all) was sitting in between a couple of the fish sellers. What you do is you hire a guy with a wheelbarrow for around $5 and he follows you around the market to put your stuff in. I miss my berries from Australia but pineapple, banana's, pawpaw is great. ... read more

BULLA Unfortunately nothing exciting to report for my first entry, thought this might be an easier way to share the news rather than email...and plus there is not much to do here so I may as well. Girls finished school yesterday, was invited to fish and chips after final assembly - after an unexpected shower (VERY heavy rain and as I was late for assembly had to park a loooong way away -very drenched) a few of us had a wine...then another - then we decided to take the kids home and kick on at one of the girls houses for a few more (thank goodness she was across the street)..however being the responsible mature adult I am (most of the time) I did call it a night at 8pm - also due to the fact ... read more
