Geo: 45.4096, 11.8766After lunch this afternoon Jenny and Fabio arrived. They were taking Michael and I out for the afternoon. We were going to Padua. I had been there before, but it was many years ago. The road was quite busy and it took us about forty minutes to get there. We drove around the edge of the city, along the canal and the old city walls. We parked, started walking and soon arrived at the Prato della Valle. This is the largest public square in Italy and one of the largest in Europe. It was quite busy and apparently at various times of the day can be quite dodgy. There are 78 statues arranged in two rings on both sides of the canal. There are four bridges that cross the canal with a fountain in ... read more

Geo: 45.8479, 11.8847We left Asolo and drove towards Possagno. When we arrived at the Temple of Canova the carpark was empty. Then we realised why, today was Monday and many tourist sights in Europe are closed on a Monday. This was disappointing and we were interested in seeing inside this round church. ... read more

Europe » Italy » Veneto » Asolo September 26th 2016

Geo: 45.7933, 11.9128After lunch Zio Franco took Michael and I for a drive to a nearby touristy town. The town was very quiet this afternoon. From the car park in the historical centre we could see the Fortress of Asolo at the top of the hill. To us it looked like it was very run down and possibly now just ruins. It was built in the late 12th century. Below the fortress, we had a great view of a magnificent building, it was the former convent. As we walked around we noticed that the main streets were decorated with many Italian flags. I assume that there must be a festival on soon. On the outside of the Palace of Reason we stopped to admire the very ancient frescoes from the 16th century which depicted a battle scene. ... read more

Europe » Italy » Veneto » Castelfranco Veneto September 25th 2016

Geo: 45.6713, 11.9262This morning we finished packing and luckily all our washing had dried. I messaged Luana to tell her that we were now leaving, so she could come and prepare for the next guests. It was a ten minute walk to the station and the streets were much quieter than last time, making it much easier to wheel our suitcases through the city. We were catching the 9:30 train to Padova and here changing train for Castelfranco. The journey was just under three hours. When the train was pulling into the station, we stood up and stretched. Looking out the window we spotted dad and our Zio Franco (uncle). For the next ten days we would have to try and speak Italian the whole time, so that the family don't feel left out or that ... read more
