Our trip to the Valleys of the Kings and Queens was great. We got up early to beat the heat and the other tourists! Althought it being the summer and very hot, there were not as many tourists as there are in the other seasons when it is cooler. We went first of all to the Valley of the Kings, you are allowed to go into three tombs. Our guide pointed us in the direction of the tombs of three different Ramses - Ramses I, Ramses IV and Ramses IX. The Valley of the Kings has about 63 known tombs - [View Full Entry]

David and I went to Luxor, Egypt for a week away to the heat and sunshine. And HOT it was - and the sun never stopped shining! We managed to pack in quite a lot during the week, lazing round the pool as well as a balloon flight over the river Nile, a trip into the Valley of the Kings and the Valley of the Queens on the west bank of the Nile (see Thebes Travelblog entry) and visits to Luxor Temple, Karnak Temple and Luxor Museum. The Luxor Museum was much smaller than the museum in Cairo - but more [View Full Entry]

My lovely mother bought David and me tickets to Chelsea Flower Show in London for our birthday presents. David and I had never been before, my mum had been but about 45 years ago. We looked at all the show gardens, and all the small gardens and the courtyard gardens. And we looked at just about everything in the great pavillion. It was fantastic to go there and I loved seeing so many designed gardens. Lots of the show gardens were around the colour scheme of dark purple, mauve, black, maroon - lovely but rather a lot of it. This made [View Full Entry]

We took a trip to the Grand Canyon from Las Vegas. We flew in a 19 seater plane - I was terrified. We flew up over the Hoover Dam, Lake Mead, and towards the Grand Canyon - such fantastic views from so high up. Brilliant. They were truly amazing. When we landed at Grand Canyon airport there was snow and ice on the ground, and it was very cold. We got in a coach and were taken to Yavapai Point. We got out and walked to the rim - it was FANTASTICALLY beautiful. The size, colours, depth, width, everything was stunningly [View Full Entry]

We flew from San Jose to Las Vegas, which was having a number of years of rain in just two days. It was pouring with rain, and the taxi driver asked us if we could swim, as he drove thru some well established puddles in the road! We checked into our hotel, Harrahs, and noticed the casino element of the hotel immediately - it was difficult to miss! I don’t know what I expected of Las Vegas, I didn’t really have any preconceived ideas. Having been there, it is loud, brash, unreal, but really well done. The hotels each have a [View Full Entry]

My husband and I went to the United States of America for a week. We went first of all to San Francisco, staying with my aunt, who is a teacher in San Jose. We drove across the Golden Gate Bridge, that was luckily not covered in fog! We had great views of the bridge on the opposite side of the water to San Francisco, both from the usual tourist view point to the north east of the bridge. Then my aunt drove us back up and around to the north west of the bridge, which meant that San Francisco was behind [View Full Entry]

My husband and I went to Brussels for a long weekend at the end of October 2004. It was not our first trip. We had a great time walking around and spent most of our time in the Grand Place which has the most beautiful buildings... the guild houses. We did partake of a chocolate waffle too, which was more than filling, but very enjoyable! Many places to see are within easy walking distance of the centre. [View Full Entry]

Our annual holiday was to Malaysia. We spent 4 nights in KL, and 8 in Borneo, relaxing in a lovely hotel. I had been to KL before when I 'travelled' from 1988 - 1990, but it was David's first trip. We walked a lot and went up the Petronas Towers, the pride of KL. It was very hot. We went to China Town, the Central Market, as well as the places shown in the photos. I am not going to put in a blog for Borneo, cos we really did just laze around in the hotel and on the beach, apart [View Full Entry]

We went to stay in the lovely Trevalsa Court Hotel, Mevagissey for a few days. The hotel is right on the cliff edge, with just the coastal path separating it from the sea. The beach right across the coastal path from the hotel was lovely, despite the very steep climb down, not good if you are scared of heights, but I managed it more than once. It was deserted and although not big, was very beautiful. We walked along the coastal path, but realised how unfit we were! We walked into Mevagissey along the coastal path, and saw the village bathed [View Full Entry]
