On day 7 we left Bangkok and hopped on a bus headed for Kanchanaburi. It's a province about two hours west of Bangkok. Arriving Kanchanaburi we grabbed a "taxi", which was nothing more than a pickup truck with two benches on the bed, and set off to our hotel for the next two nights. The hotel was a BIG and beautiful place, BUT, we must have been the only two guests that place had seen in quite a while. It took us a good 5 minutes to get from the lobby to our room, and whenever we were out of the room we had most of the staff follow our every move. Slightly creepy :) After we got settled in, we got another taxi to take us somewhere we could rent a bike. We got ourselves ... read more

The evening of day 4 we ended up on Khao San road again with all the chaos that seems to belong there. But the evening was fairly calm on our part, we met a swedish and icelandic guy that were out partying together. And for the Icelanders it seemed to be magical to get to speak icelandic for a little while. :) On day 5 we went to Chatuchak weekend market which must be the closest thing you can do to get an idea for how it must feel to be an ant in an anthill. People everywhere! A never ending supply of booths that sell pretty much anything you can think of. We went around for about four hours and bought the things we liked and when we got home we realized that we didn't ... read more

Day 2 ended well. After we left our room and came down to the hostels reception we were greeted by an award winningly ugly woman that spoke with a very dark voice and had peculiar black dots in her face. Assa's first meeting with one of Thailands numerous ladyboys. She was nice and gave us directions on how to get to Khao San road which is a favourite party street among the backpackers in Bangkok. After hanging out with the 1 billion other backpackers at Khao San road and introducing Assa to Chang beer and Thai cuisine for way to many hours we walked home and stuffed our faces with Thai pancakes and other streetfood goodies. On day three Assa woke up with the mother of all hangovers. We had breakfast and spoke to an australian ... read more

So. Since we rented out our home for the duration of our trip, we had to pack up all our belongings and pack it away. The new challenge was now to pack for six months on the road in a 60 liter backpack. So bringing a big winter jacket was not an option. This now meant that as we were leaving our home in Stockholm on december 1:st we would pretty much be wearing clothes suitable for Thailand. This would prove to have some comical value. As we looked out at the thermometer it showed a slightly cool -12 degrees with a nice layer of snow on the ground. Perfect weather to be wearing track pants, tanktops and open toe shoes right? So off we go. And the look in peoples faces as we walked past ... read more
