Well, where to start since our last blog in Boston?? We headed to Los Angeles and spent a couple of nights in Venice Beach where the weather was so warm we were able to get our summer clothes out again and enjoy the last of the sunshine before we headed across the country to visit a friend in (not so) sunny Montana. Getting to Montana was an adventure in itself... first we headed to Las Vegas to pick up our rental car. We only spent one night in Vegas so we have not yet experienced the Vegas night life - that is coming up when we return the rental car on 9th December. Once we had the car we headed off from Vegas, not really sure where we were going but pretty sure that we were ... read more

We arrived by bus from NYC to Boston, and checked into our "ghostly"hotel/hostel...we think its haunted!! There is a black cat that hangs around and some old people who look rather creepy. Had some dinner in the lovely town of Everett where the people are more than happy to help you! The next day we went to the "downtown"of Boston walked through the middle of the city to Qunicy marketplace where funnily enough we did more shopping....its addictive! Then had lunch and some wine in "Little Italy", a gorgeous street with thousands of restaurants and cafes. We met up with a friend of a friend called Mike for more drinks then us girls decided to go dancing all night long!!! Great nightlife in Boston just like Sydney! Well off to Los Angeles tomorrow.... *could not upload ... read more

After 2 days travel we finally made it to New York City. We arrived mid morning and made our way by bus from the airport. We booked accommodation from Peru and unfortunately in our panic to leave forgot to write down the address. So after walking up and down 94th street (with our 20kg backpacks may we add) we finally worked out we should have been walking up and down 73rd street trying to find our accommodation...ahhh the joys of travel. So we eventually found our apartment by midday but of course it was not available until 3pm that day. We desperately needed a shower but decided to make the most of our time and we took ourselves off to the hairdresser where we all respectively had our hair done. Lets just say it was heaven! ... read more

Ok here is the run down of what we have been up to in Peru for the past 3 weeks..... Salkantay - trek to Machu Picchu We decided to do a 5 day, 6 night trek called the Salkantay trek to Machu Picchu. The trek is known as the hardest trek to do and we do not know what possessed us to do the this actual trek. What were we thinking???? It was 90kms long and lets just say it was not easy especially battling alltitude. The highest point we reached was 4600 metres above sea level. When hiking uphill it was very difficult to breath. We hiked for approx 8 hours a day. Half way through the trip we visited natural hot springs which relieved our aching muscles. On the final day of the trek ... read more

Well it was with heavy hearts that we said goodbye to the babies and our friends in Kampala a few weeks ago. We had the best time and are all talking about the date for our return trip. Our time at the babies home was amazing, we instantly fell in love with all the babies there and with the kids at Peace for Children Africa (formerly Voice of Hope). Our time with the babies and kids had a profound effect on all three of us and we definitely look at life differently now - no more complaining about trivial things anymore, we really are fortunate. We left Uganda and headed to Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe to start our three week safari. We had a couple of days in Vic Falls before the safari started which we ... read more

Not sure if you have heard but there has been riots in Kampala over the last 2 days. Just a quick email to say we are all safe and at Jinga. We have managed to avoid the riots. We have been told it is safe to travel back today to Kampala and will be doing so later today. Sorry about the group email but easiest way to update everyone. Kath, Jac and Kate xxx ... read more

Well its been quite a while since we blogged. It is not easy getting internet in Uganda. We have done so much in the 3 weeks we have been here. We are all really enjoying volunteering at the babies home and we now want to take them all home with us!. They all have their own personalities and are just adorable even with snotty noses and smelly bums. We have all had at least one baby vomit over us and have changed too many dirty nappies to count. We have just come back from trekking the gorillas in the Bwindi National Park. Again an amazing experience. We have been involved with other projects such as Project Injustice with street kids and Voice of Hope. It has been an overwhelming experience seeing kids from the slums trying ... read more

Well our time in Asia has come to an end. The past week or so has been spent in a whirlwind of getting dresses and shoes made, having manicures and pedicures and relaxing on the beach in Hoi An. We spent four nights, three days in the city. It was extremely hot and the humidity there ensured that everytime we stepped out of the hotel we were drenched in sweat - very appealing. It was so hot there it was even too hot to go to the beach. The only respite was to head back to our air conditioned hotel (if we were lucky reception hadn't turned off our air conditioning which was something that was constantly happening throughout Vietnam), and wait out the heat and venture out again about 5 o'clock. After Hoi An, we ... read more

So we decided to fly from Luang Prabang rather than take the 15 hour bus ride and it was a good choice. Our flight was on Vietnam airlines direct to Hanoi. The flight time was 45 mins so very short. We arrived in Hanoi at about 5pm. We had not organised accommodation. We had a flight out the next morning at 7am to Hoi An so we were tossing up whether to stay close by a hotel near the airport or go into the city centre. The airport is about 1 hour by cab away. We decided in the end to take a taxi into the city centre instead of a mini van. The taxi ride was pretty uneventful except for a detour that we had to take due to a traffic jam on the main ... read more
