last night in nairobi was super extra painful. i did manage to find a nice dark hallway to sneak a few cigarettes in... didn't get yelled at or arrested so i was very pleased. slept for like literally one hour - until like 6 people from spain started talking loudly after they all decided to sit right by the place i was sleeping on the floor in the empty airport. i almost freaked out and started yelling at them in spanish to shut up (i'm so glad my college education is finally coming in handy). mom - you'll like this... so [View Full Entry]

i got into nairobi like an hour or 2 ago. can't really leave the airport - the visas are $50 and you're not allowed to even smoke outside of the building... mom and danielle you'd be proud of me - i haven't injured anyone yet... (but i did get to smoke in the airport even though it's not allowed... not all ghetto style in the bathroom either). anyways... the longer i'm gone the more shitty stuff happens to all of my friends and i can't be there for them - i love you denise. so - back to talking about myself... 6 of us stayed after the trip... we stayed in some hostel that was pretty nice and the other 5 left this morning. now i'm all alone in an internet cafe waiting til 9 (it's 7.30) for the shuttle that will take me to the airport. it's sad - it's raining too which doesn't make today seem super happy either. we went out and got some good indian food last night with our academic director. they were both super cool. it's kind of strange to think i have nothing planned for the next week but flights and car rides to and [View Full Entry]

and most people are flying home this afternoon at 4. i leave tomorrow for zanzibar. we spent a few nights at this super awesome place with pete and charlotte o'neal. former black panthers. they run a place called united african alliance - donate money there - they're doing some super great stuff and were so incredibly nice and awesome. i'm a bit sad everyone is leaving... kinda worried abouyt being alone for so long - but i know it'll be fine. i am looking forward to having a week to myself on the beach. we also went on a safari in [View Full Entry]

happy birthday dad - i'm gonna try to call if i can find airtime for my phone. arusha is really beautiful, but it's cold. not minnesota style cold, but still cold. i'm at the ictr library trying to work on another paper right now. some people are going to hike mt. kili.... tomorrow and then most of us are going to go on an overnight safari this weekend to the crater. it should be pretty awesome. i'm excited. we have less than a week left in the program and then it's off to zanzibar for me.
