Today was trying to get back on track for hiking. Last 2 hikes I stopped after less than 10km due to foot injuries. I drove north to Orangeville and parked at the 7th line rd Bruce Trail parking lot. After my usual stretching and preparation I started my hike. You walk along 7th Line for about 600M until you enter the trail section. For the next 2km it is moderate hiking with moderate elevation. It is mostly private property you are walking through so you have to stay on the trail. I exited the trail onto 5th Side Rd and crossed the street to get back onto the trail. The next 3KM of the hike is difficult and has a lot of elevation changes. At this point I was approaching the highest point of the escarpment ... read more

This was not a good day hiking. I only managed 6.5 KM for a number of reasons. I drove 40KM north of my apartment to a Bruce Trail Parking lot at 7th Line Orangeville just off Airport Rd. I was feeling a bit sick so I was not sure how far I was going to get today. I walked south from the Parking lot and into Conservation Lands. There must have been a major storm in the area recently because there were a number of obstructions on the trail. Including an enormous tree that had fallen on the trail. I debated rather to try and climb the tree trunk but I opted instead to walk a bit through the forest to get around it. The Bruce Trail association is very good about clearing these trees in ... read more

When I hike the Bruce Trail getting back to my car is always tricky. Over the 14 days I have hiked so far I have done a mix of hiking with friends, getting friends to pick me up, Uber, Taxi, Buses, and walking back to my car. As I go farther north my range of options will be limited. Uber, buses and friends that far north will not be available. So I have to make choice about the hikes as I head farther north. I usually only count the distance I am on the Bruce Trail and not the distance I hike back to my car. I have decided to count the distance I hike as part of my Bruce Trail hike. For example if I hike 5 km on the Bruce Trail and than hike ... read more

This was a difficult hike for a variety of reasons, I will detail them in the following paragraphs. Today would be one of my longer hikes. It would be somewhere around 35KM to Old Base Line Rd in Caledon. I parked my at the Bruce Trail Parking lot at 15 Side Rd in Speyside. I was carrying extra food and water because I would be on the trail for 8 hours at the minimum. I walked about 1km to get onto the trail. This is where the hard part of the trail starts. The terrain was tough with swampy, rocky and slippery terrain. There is also a lot of mosquitoes and other bugs because the swamp in this part of the trail. I moved as quickly as I could through this part but it was a ... read more

This would be my first hike in the Toronto Section of the Bruce Trail. I finished the Iroquioan section 2 days earlier. I was planning to park in the Kelso Conservation Area and than walking northward to Acton. When I got there at 7AM the conservation area had a sign up saying it would not open until 8:30AM. I tried to park on the side of the road on Campbellville Rd near Hilton Falls but every section of the road had a sign saying no parking allowed. I also saw a sign saying the overpass on the 401 for the Bruce Trail was closed so even if I parked at Kelso I would not be able to walk the Bruce Trail anyway. After sitting in my car for a few minutes I came up with a ... read more

Started hiking early again to avoid the worst of the days heat. I drove to 2130 Derry Rd but some recent road work had eliminated the shoulders so there was no where to park. Thankfully I remembered from my last hike there was a school about 1 km back on the trail. So I drove down Mcniven st and than Kilbride St to Kilbride Public school which has public parking. Today's hike was tricky because it was supposed to rain today. I started early and hoped to avoid the worse of the rain. Unfortunately less than 1 hour into my hike it started to rain heavily. Thankfully I had just purchased a Dollarama rain poncho that kept me dry. The first 5 km of the hike was easy flat terrain and I was making good time ... read more

Another hot day of hiking. To avoid the heat as much as I could I started out an hour earlier at 7AM. There is a spot near 3450 Guelph Line Rd you can park on the side of the road. I started my hike in the fields and it was slow going because the trail here is overrun with vegetation. Thankfully it only lasted a few hundred meters. After that you wander around a forest for about a km until you exit the forest and turn right onto Number 1 side rd and than turn left onto Walkers Line Rd. There are only a few trail markers so keep walking until you see the next marker. I have driven down Walkers Line many times over the years and I could see Mount Nemo while driving. I ... read more

Day 10 of my hike. Today would be a hot day but thankfully it was a short hike at 15KM. I drove down to Snake Rd in Burlington. That road is named not because of the snakes that are prevalent but because the road is shaped kinda like of a snake. There is a shoulder area next to the road that you can park your car. As I prepared for my hike I saw a group of mountain bikers heading down the trail. I was impressed they were trying that route because it was not only hot and humid but the trail is quite tricky even on foot. It is hard walking through hot and humid weather. I was sweating a lot even early on. The first 5km of the hike is a series of up ... read more

Day 9 of my hike. I drove down to Dundas Valley Conservation Area to start my hike. The Conservation Area has parking but it costs $10 to park there. After getting my backpack together and stretching I started my hike. It was hot at 27 Degrees Celsius which was slightly cooler from last week but humidity was higher. I walked along the roadway to get out of the parking lot and turned left on Governors and than right onto the Bruce Trail. The first 4km of the hike is through a forested area with a lot of plants growing across the trail. Unfortunately for me this is height of caterpillar season. I kept running into them as I walked along the trail. I was covered with caterpillars after a while. I spent time removing them from ... read more

This hike is over 2 days. The first hike was on May 14th and the 2nd part was on May 28th. The first day I hiked with my friend Danielle Takacs. We met up at Jolley Cut and took one of our cars to the Devil's Punchbowl. The area does look like a punchbowl but I am not certain why would it be considered a Devil's punchbowl. Anyway we took a short blue marked side trail down the punchbowl to meetup with the Bruce Trail. The hike was fairly hilly and we went up and down the escarpment. We had some good views of the city of Hamilton and Stoney Creek as we walked along. Danielle hasn't hiked in a while so we were going at slightly slower pace than I usually do. We saw some ... read more
