$26 Suit Oceania » Australia » New South Wales » Sydney » Randwick
What follows is a bunch of stories about some of my good times here in Sydney. Some of the stories are funny, some are boring... but they were all good events. They don't really even scratch the surface of what all has gone on. Though nothing terrible wild and exciting. Mostly healing and making new good friends $26 Suit Saturday night I found myself dancing to bad 80s music and having a great time. I owe it all to my $26 suit. Daz ended up with an extra ticket to his Black Tie Christmas party, and he offered it to me. [View Full Entry]

Let it Ride Oceania » Australia » New South Wales » Sydney
Time to write an update. This blog is not intended to tell all the stories of my 2+ months in Sydney. I will fill in some of the stories not told here before I leave from Sydney. But for now, I just want to tell the stories of last week. Last week I embarked on a 5 day “excursion” to test my health and see how ready to travel I really was. Melbourne Cup The first test was on Tuesday, and it was The Melbourne Cup. The Cup is held on the first Tuesday in November every year. It is a [View Full Entry]

What's Up Doc Oceania » Australia » New South Wales » Sydney » Randwick
Well, I’m all settled in Sydney. I’m staying in Randwick. It is sort of like an in town suburb of Sydney. It is pretty cool place to live actually. I’m a 15 minute bus ride to the center of town and the Harbour Bridge. I’m a 15 minute walk to the beach. I’m a 15 minute walk to the Uni where my physio is. All and all, not a bad area of town to live in. I spent this last weekend at the beach. I thought I was in Malibu. Yup, it is that type of beach. So I’m settling in [View Full Entry]

Thursday morning Paul and I arrived in Bundaberg, Queensland, Australia. It was about 12 days and 1000 miles since leaving Luganville, Vanuatu. The passage was split into two parts. The first part was 4 days from Luganville to Chesterfield Reef. This was a pleasant passage. The winds were 20-25 knots, mostly aft of the beam. And they did us the tremendous favor of reducing as we approached and entered Chesterfield. After a few days at Chesterfield we left for the last leg to Bundy. We left in light winds and probably motored for 36 of the first 48 hours we were [View Full Entry]

Getting ready to leave Vanuatu, for Australia. Though we have been saying that for a week. Yes we have spent a week here at Aore Resort in Luganville. Paul has been doing some cool dives on the wreck the USS Coolidge. I sank here during WWII, hit a friendly mine. Me, I've been doing bugger all since getting here. Mostly sitting around the pool, getting some much needed R&R. The last few days I've had some interesting birds to watch. They were dive bombing the pool. At first I thought they were drinking but I think they were picking the bugs [View Full Entry]

Of Volcanoes and Nambas Oceania » Vanuatu » Ambrym
Of Volcanoes First some observations on the physical qualities of sailors. Looking around at the Ambrym festival I noticed that most sailors appear in pretty good shape. Very few are really overweight. Many are quite svelte. But deep down, they are really out of shape. I'm no different actually. On this trip I've lost some weight, despite all the good eating. Being on the boat you are constantly moving and burning calories. But you aren't really working any major muscle groups or get any cardiovascular exercise. So combine this amount of inactivity for the last 4 months wi [View Full Entry]

Galley Wench Oceania » Vanuatu » Efate » Port Vila
So I was lying up in the cockpit just a bit ago thinking about some emails I want to send when I get into town in a few days. One of them was to a friend I’ve been meaning to email the last two times I’ve been to the internet. I want know if they went to Buffett this summer or not. I started thinking about the rest of the email. All the usual. “What have I missed? How are things?” blah blah blah. To which I know the response would have the other usual questions. “How is the trip? How [View Full Entry]

Hanging fruit

Today has been the most amazing day. It started early and ended late and has been full of laughter and adventure. The day started at 6AM Vanuatu time. The big task for today was to clear customs and immigration into Vanuatu. We are anchored in Port Resolution on Tanna Island and customs is across the island Lenakel. Normally, Paul just does customs while I wait on the boat, but not this trip. I’m going to Lenakel! At 7AM we assemble at the “Yacht Club.” There happen to be two sailboats here today that need to clear customs, Ladymink and us. Ladymink [View Full Entry]

The winds of change Oceania » Fiji » Viti Levu » Nadi
Anybody remember who sang that song? I don't but it seems appropriate. Yesterday we were preparing to head to the Yasawa Island group today. This morning after looking at the weather and reading some other emails we are preparing to go back to Musket Cove. We are actually only spending a couple of days there and then headed to Vanuatu. So my days in Fiji are numbered. While I'm excited to go to Vanuatu, I am not excited to leave Fiji. It's quite a good feeling to feel like you are leaving something behind when you leave a country. It's easy [View Full Entry]

Spring Break '06 Oceania » Fiji » Viti Levu » Nadi
Ok, I'm back in Lautoka now. I think I've been here for like over 2 weeks and I haven't done Jack. I've really been on a sort of spring break. While the boat was getting fixed I didn't do much. Hung out, worked on the boat, tried to heal some old injuries and then made friends with the local bar staff. Then we went to Musket Cove for what turned into 5 days. Musket Cove is a resort a short 3 hour sail from Vuda Point. Its a resort for tourists and yachties alike. My days were spent mostly just wandering [View Full Entry]
