| 7th January 2009 Chris N. | India blues - From: Shave and a Hair Cut, two bits Mike, Thanks for your blog update. I was having withdrawal symptoms from lack of vicarious travel thru your blog. "CouchPotato-osis." I visited India 20 years ago with a native Punjabi speaker (in undergrad with me at the time) ..I was the only white and nerdy person in 4 weeks through the country - from Delhi to Bangalore to Mysore to Hyderabad to Rishikesh. It's good to know that the auto rickshaw/ motorcycle/ bicycle traffic is still as insane as it was 20 yrs. ago. We saw a cartoon movie - in RUSSIAN (their ally). Why the US didn't choose India as an ally rather than Pakistan I'll never know. I finished a course on infectious diseases. I'm impressed you made it through all your countries w/o a hitch. Amazing. BTW, our church does a x-country bike ride thru India. Are you game? Best & Happy NY, Chris |

| 15th April 2008 Chris | perspective - From: TIA Mike, um, like 'wow'. You've done more things, traveled more places than 99.99% of people in their lifetime -that much is clearly obvious. But the lessons you've learned and shared are really the most valuable part of your travels (to me at least). As they say, travel removes prejudice. Thanks for the great adventure via blog. I've lived vicariously, if not jealously, through your travels whilst I sit in cozy and (mostly) dysentery-free USA. I will toast you with a PBJ. Perspective, man, perspective. |

| 13th July 2007 rich magill | quote - From: Decadent Fanta's by the Pool Forgot to say that it reminds me of a quote from Josef Stalin (ironically), regarding how we become numb to mass murder of this scale : "One death is a tragedy, a million deaths is merely a statistic" |
| 13th July 2007 rich magill | Rwanda - From: Decadent Fanta's by the Pool Really sad - and a bit unreal to think how it happened recently, is happening now in Sudan, could happen again tomorrow somewhere else... We were there during my second bout of malaria and it was the best place we could've imagined to get some much needed R&R. Hope the ferry ride next week is super fun... totally bummed we couldn't join you for that adventure. Take care, Cat travelingcat.com |
