Another Iberian Pilgrimage

a trip by Doug Fitzgerald
From: April 22nd 2022
Until: June 5th 2022

I had originally thought that I would walk the Camino Portuguese two years ago, in 2020. It wasn't to be, but it didn't leave the radar, and planning is now well advanced.

I will travel from Australia on 21 Apr, with a view to start walking from Lisbon on the 25th or 26th. From Lisbon I plan to walk to Fatima, then take a bus to rejoin the Camino Portuguese route at Tomar. From there it will on to Porto and then Santiago de Compostela.

This will be about 625 km of walking, which I plan to do at about 20 km/day. There are still some bits that won't be decided until I am underway, like where I will take the first rest day, and which of the three route variants I will walk from Porto.

It will also be the first really long walk I have done since having a hip and knee replaced. All my replacement joints have had a reasonable workout over longer distances than I am planning, but not over five or six weeks of pretty continual walking.

Otherwise, I am hoping to stay COVID safe by avoiding the crowds and practising good hygiene measures, wearing a mask and observing the changes in allergies etiquette, etc.
