Arkansas to Alaska, Summer 2012

a trip by LuckyTravelers
From: June 3rd 2012
Until: September 1st 2012

This trip began with the announcement of retirement in the fall of 2011. We bought a 38' motorcoach, sight unseen, found a 2 month tour through Alaska and made the commitment to do it. Having never owned or even driven a motorcoach, this was like learning the dog paddle and signing up for a swim across the English Channel.
We loved the coach, a huge relief! Naturally, because we can never leave anything "as is", we made some improvements to get it ready for a 3 month journey, including the 2 months in Alaska where roads are reported to be under construction all summer. After being tweaked from stem to stern, the coach now named Monica, was declared ready for the trip.
This trip will take us from our home in Arkansas to our tour meeting point of Coeur d'Alene, ID. We will take 2 weeks to travel through South Dakota, Wyoming and Montana and following the tour, we'll take another 2 weeks to return via Washington to Utah and home.
When it is all over, we will be seasoned RV'ers, which is a description I would NEVER have imagined would apply to us. We will love it or hate the RV life, but we know the journey will be worth describing and commenting on to our family and friends.
