Pukulpa pitajama Ananguku ngurkakutu ‘Welcome to Aboriginal Land’ Devils Marbles, 168km from the Three ways Roadhouse along the Stuarts Highway, Northern Territory. Kwerrwympe/Munga Munga Dreaming: A women’s story ‘Two Warumunga ladies were traveling from Munga Munga (near Tennant Creek) to Karlwekariwe in the dreaming time. Kaytetye and Anmatyarr women from the south met together with these Warumunga ladies at Karlwekarlwe. Here they made a big ceremony. They were showing each other their dreaming (stories), all those Kwerrwympe. Before white people came, Aboriginal people made big ceremonies here about these Kwerrwympe’. A senior Tradional Owner The Dreaming is still here Aboriginal people believe that people from the dreaming at Karlwekariwe live in the caves under the rocks here. ‘They’re real people like us. You can see them. A long time a... read more
Queensland, MacKay Back in Melbourne it was getting decisively cold. The evenings were what spurred the decision to move towards a hotter climate, but as I approached various jobs and sent of resumes I discovered that was everyone else’s plan also. With feedback only from one lead I decided to follow it up. It was working the bar at a strip club in Brisbane. The evening I arrived, 17th July, I was told they only needed dancers, and although I was willing to parade around on stage I was unprepared for back lounge sittings, especially as they were full on contact. I also felt quite angry about the whole situation, as it was a steal. For $70 you got 15minutes of my time, of which I got half of that, $300, for a few hours. The ... read more
Earthdream Australia ‘The Mighty Burning Demon’, an expedition to Mutonia. Robin, from Mutoid Waste Co.’s Vision for the coming 2012 antics, when the dawn of a new era, will be held here in Alberie Creek as we move towards another dimension in this millennia, see www.earthdream.com. On the 21st June, the demon was finished in the making and burned that evening. We left Melbourne three days previous however for a 3200km round trip. We left the infamous hostel, run by James and Tamzin, near Argyle Street, it doesn’t have a ‘hostel’ sign outside, (which is probably why I can’t remember if it needs a name) its more somewhere you stay through word of mouth, but its infamous for its life changing, soul nourishing - bonding, where people stay for a while and never forget their memories ... read more
Friday 13th June. I had cancelled my flight to Melbourne that day for a very special occasion, which I felt very honoured to be a part of. Naeri, Take (Naeri’s son), Stuart, Meilia, Lorna’s mother, Taori her partner, and myself took the box with Lorna’s ashes up to a point where she had visited on their homeland. We scattered a lot of the ashes to the wind, to symbolise the air, and to 360 degrees around the landscape and buried the box with the rest into the Earth. The fire had taken place with the cremation in the UK, and some ashes had been given to the sea, so now the cycle of elements was complete, and the wood was all around too as we were in the bush surrounded by trees. The view was ... read more
Skipping the city as quickly as possible, you really need some tranquillity to ease back into, I made a ferry crossing to Waiheke Island, which is a 45 minute crossing from Auckland. I stayed with two different guests, Roberta was a lovely lady, we got on very well, she had had a hip operation, and the hospital had set it incorrectly so she was in a lot of pain, and finding it very difficult for anyone to take responsibility for it, or have it re-adjusted. Really considerate considering she has spent most of her working life as a nurse caring for people! So jobs were helping to tydy/organise and clean mainly. There was a lot of response to woofing e mails, but I decided to visit another lady, as she too was having problems with her ... read more
Vipassna The journey within, to experience with equilibrium, the passing away of layers and layers of countless experiences of negativity, and watching with delight but not becoming attached to the sensations that feel light and tingly watching them arise in your minds eye, and watching them dissapear into the past, only becoming aware of the sensations they bring. The first couple of days were hellfire, and it didnt get any easier to some degree, although the benefits I ve gained from this experience are pricelesss. In the beginning I was in agony, a pain I have had in my back for many years was craving and craving all my attention, Vipassna has taught me the sensitivity to be aware of every single part of the body, going through each part, part by part and being ... read more
So after gaining some income, it was time to e mail some more possibilities of woofing, fortunately I was contacted by Angela who owned Waiora Gardens and the month of May pointed my direction even further North, to the Hokianga, Kohu Kohu. To an inspiring place of Permaculture and Gardening, www.Waioragardens.com.au Right here in the hills where the green fields ripen, The heartbeat of nature upon the horizon, Across the seas to the land of trees, Re-generated from stolen Kauri’s, To build homes for (UK&) Americans far from homeland Mauri’s. Arriving at the entrance to Waiora, tucked back & beyond in the Hokianga, Is a sacred place you’ll only hope to find, But its there as a portal to re-create your mind. You’ll know about love when you find this place, It’s been built by many ... read more
Well I've found it difficult to start writing about this next part of the journey, had some awkward moments, and discovering the strengths and weaknesses of being alone. Wrestling with my own thoughts and ideas and fitting into other peoples was not what I was ready for, was brought down a peg or two and maybe coming to terms with parts of myself that have been pointed out that I’m not quite sure what to think.. So landed in Keri Keri, postcode 0230, just to reiterate the twist of fate, for those into chaos theory or just understand the implications of the number 23, and having watched the butterfly effect recently, realise that sometimes your dealt situations but its what you make of them that count. I never got round to taking photos of the ... read more
Unfortunatly we couldnt make the Demo as we were heading to New Zealand on the 26th Feb. On arrival in Auckland we wished we had planned ahead, one thing im never that good at, aware that Cat only had a month to go, we put all our dollars into a hire van, reluctantly at first, but not really having the time to invesigate buying one, and possibilities/consequences of break down, but ultimatly its been bliss. Cat was very on the case in organising getting in contact with everyone who was on the Permiculture Nw Zealand website, and with huge response we planned our route around the North island and a little of the South although time was the ultimatum. Who needs travel guides or Lonely Planets eh? Im writing this now at the end of ... read more
Febuary 13th, Happy Birthday Sophie! and Mary also on14th, and me, myself and eye. Today was National 'Sorry Day' for Australia. We all went down to the town Hall, where we had been the previous week for a Council meeting, which was interesting, have never made it to a meeting in the whole time I ve lived in Brighton to our own council let alone one I don't even live in, anyway.. that day (13/02/08) was a memorable one for everyone. The hall was full as the official 'live' screening of parliment, with both sides of the Australian government came together, united, to apologise to the Aboriginies for the atrocities of the past generation that created the 'stolen' generation. Children were ripped from their mothers and communities for their so called 'protection'. That day the acknowledgement ... read more
