The Abbey at Shrewsbury. This is the abbey from the Ellis Peters Cadfael series. The abbey is well worth a visit and the books are well worth reading.
Taming of the Shrewsbury 2009, Oct 23rd and 24th Well, I did something a bit silly which I do more often then I should. I decided to catch the earlier train to Shrewsbury which means I needed to skip breakfast at the B&B and run to make the train. I did in fact make the train but running with a pack and bag in hand on a hard surface at my age isn’t (I am sure) a pretty sight and it certainly is a bit painful. For this effort I will be rewarded with no breakfast and arriving in Shrewsbury at [View Full Entry]

The crag, the jets, and the burial chamber. 2009, Oct 21st Well, this will be my final full day in Betws-y-Coed. I booked a room in Conwy for Thursday night. I had hoped to book a place for two nights but apparently Conwy is having some kind of food festival so all I could get was the one night. Rather then relocate within Conwy I will likely move on to someplace further south so as to position myself more continentally for the final part of this trip which currently is in Greenwich. I did a single short walk for this day [View Full Entry]

The Conwy Show 2009, Oct 22nd Well, I left Betws-y-Coed on the morning of the 22nd headed for Conwy. I decide to take the train as it one is leaving around 9:15 while the bus I had originally anticipated leaves at 10:10. As I am just waiting at the station I may as well take the earlier option. Conwy is supposed to have great mideaval walls just like Chester as well as one of the most impressive of the Edward castles. Once again I wish I had a car as I found a used bookstore on my arrival at Llandando Junction [View Full Entry]

All plans execute as planed. Right? 2009, Oct 19th and 20th Well, I had planned to pick up the Dee Way in Chester and follow it to Bala. Oddly enough though I can’t seem to find anyone who knows anything about the Dee Way path. Nothing in the various tourists information centers nor could I find any markers on the Dee river or Canals. I guess this is the difference between a national trail and a more regional one that is fairly new. With no real way to identify how to proceed and having no fixed plans I decided to travel [View Full Entry]

The clod from Chester, England, England. 2009, Oct 18th My first full day in the UK will be spent here in Chester (Diva Victrix). I came here because the train was direct with only 1 stop at Crewe before hitting Chester. Perhaps I should have just gone to Crewe but I had heard of Chester and it’s amazing walls and wanted to see them. In addition to the walls it is supposed to have a castle, a cathedral, and a Roman Amphitheatre. The castle was closed but I did see the others and from the look of the castle remains the [View Full Entry]

LAX to Boston 2009, Oct 21st OK, lets give this a try. This is my first post so this is in part experimental. I am waiting at gate 46a in Terminal #4 LAX for a connecting flight to London which leaves in about 1 hour. The trip has started out well as I have managed to get an emergency exit aisle seat at check in. Always nice to have a bit of extra room during a flight. This first leg will take me to Boston where I have a 3 hour lay over before continuing on to London. Boston Logan Well, [View Full Entry]
