On the road again

Here we are again, sitting at the airport waiting. One day in Bkk seems enough, too noisy, too many people and too many touts. Chiang Mai was much better for shopping. But anyway, saw the Grand Palace, the biggest Buddha, all very impressive just as the mad one-eyed tuk-tuk driver.... But we survived! Have to come back though and see more - this computerr drives me crazy, so eom (end of message!)

Today is Monday and on Wednesday we'll head for Koh Samui to fly to Bangkok. We have got one dive left this afternoon after 2 dives off a boat yesterday somewhere in the Marine Park - Great!!! We went down to 17 metres, saw millions of corals and fish and bubbles! Lunch on the boat, which is pretty strange after floating weightless through the ocean (almost causes sea sickness) and then a second dive to 12 metres. On the way back to Had Yao we sat our test which we both passed, so now (or this afternoon, after the last dive) we will be certified open water divers. Tomorrow will be a relaxing day and then it's packing. Time flies to fast when you're exploring new things, wish we could stay as long as some of ... read more

... our first dive is completed! Pretty scary, exciting, great, awesome whatsoever..... Have to read our homework for tomorrow, so that's all for today.... Food still great, weather and ocean almost too hot, more soon. First day: lectures, dive off the beach, test Second day: 2 dives off the long boat (local sites) with lunch in between, test Third day: 2 dives off the big dive boat with lunch (Marine Park) and final test Fourth day: leasure dive off the beach DEUTSCH Unser erster Tauchgang...

... is what I will be for four days from tomorrow! Yes, I've booked a diving course and am currently working on Stefan to do the same. Then two more days to relax and for the way back we will take the fast ferry to Ko Samui and fly from there straight to Bangkok - no more bussing around. Will try to upload a few pics now. Heute abend wollen ... read more

... we did for more than 12 hours to finally get to Ko Pha Ngan. We covered a distance from something like Cape Reinga to Invercargill, only that the last airport was in Dunedin. We took a flight to Bangkok from Chiang Mai early in the morning hoping that we could get a good connecting flight from there onwards. The options were either Surat Thani or Krabi. So when we arrived after 1 hours flight I rushed to the sales counters while Stefan waited for our luggage. Air Asia had a flight to Surat Thani at 10.50 which allowed us 1.5 hours for "transit". We didn't know it yet, but everything on this day was going to be delayed. So we finally took off at 11.20, arrived at 12.20 in Surat Thani and were immediatelly fished ... read more

First English, then German... After 3 days in the bush we're finally back in Chiang Mai. Actually, we came back yesterday but immediately booked the next tour up to the highest mountain of Thailand. One day tour in an airconditioned minivan, temperature up the mountain only 20 degrees - very nice for a change. Trek was great, some nice people. lots of new impressions, amazing living, washing in a river (that occasionally receives some elephant dung as well...), crowing roosters on masse and amazing sitting on the neck of an elephant. Almost drowned our tour guide on the bamboo raft... First shower in Chiang Mai back again felt great!!!! Last night another sunday night market in Chiang Mai to spend more mo. Just booked a flight to Bangkok for tomorrow morning, early, so this is just ... read more

First English, then German, also bitte weiter-scollen! Well. after our first real message from here we started exploring Chiang Mai on foot. Saw heaps of beautiful temples, absolutely amazing! After our long night on the benches at Bangkok airport we felt like having a massage, so we stopped by a place right on one of the main streets and got 1 1/2 hours massage, the full works, Thai massage and then the oil one. The Thai massage was a bit too rough for my liking, not very relaxing, more like "when is it over" but the oil one was really nice. All in all it cost us something ridiculous like $12 NZ.... Only comment: never wear a skirt when you're going to have a Thai massage - more info in this later. We then went back ... read more

Angekommen, endlich - arrived, finally. Well, sort of. We are now in Bangkok airport and had a snooze on some very uncomfy metal seats - no cosy chairs or anything, so the choice was floor or metal seats. In about 2 hours we will carry on to Chiang Mai. But let's start with Melbourne - first change of plans. Stefan decided to stay at the airport so I headed off on my own for some food. Caught the bus into town, which was good. The bus takes the emergency lane where traffic is too heavy, so got there after 25 minutes to find out that the market is closed on Mondays. But I found a bakery and ALDI so headed back to the airport, heavily packed. All in all it took me about three hours. And, ... read more
