So, after 18 hr flight and dog shit Iberian food have landed in a warm, sunny Santiago. flew over the Andes and first impressions....WOW. was amazing view but they look very brown. not how I imagined at all. I guess that being half way up Chile, Santiago is nearer to the desert. note to self. pay more attention in Georgraphy classes. many ways to get to town from airport . Licenced taxi ( very expensive), unlicenced cab, ( super expensive), shuttle bus (so so peso) . Plumped for good old fashioned public transport. crazy bus driver dropped me way past where I shouted I needed to get off and so was a hike back. talking so fast in Spanish I could not understand him. So final farewells in London with pals Brian, Tim and his cousin Kate at the Gunmakers, Marylebone last night. (London Glory and a cheeky little Cianti) One last pint or two today (16th) with friend Lorna Pearce at the Churchill Arms, Notting Hill (fullers london pride) and then to the airport. Met a lovely American guy Andy from Texas on train. He had had a few too many at lunch and was zonked out snoring a goodun with his feet up. Chatted some. Hope he stays awake at the airport for his flight home. Heading for the bar accosted by young girl with sample of grey goose vodka. “Why not?“ I thought. So, my big trip is almost here. I have been saying my goodbyes in London and Southampton, the last one being with a dear friend over lunch yesterday. She gave me a zippo with 'loving your work' engraved upon it. Was such a sweet thing to do and I must admit a small tear in my eye. I shall miss her. last do tonight in the Plough, Taunton. Pie and mash and the quiz night with some new friends and of course my lovely Molly. A true romantic me. So,....... I am flying with Iberia. A reliable airline I was informed. I remember once writing it in a book of rememberance for my cousin Steve, who was taken from us far too early, hoping that it would help those who read it, and for Steve himself in his journey though to whatever lies beyond the next door.
