Sheer delight Thank you, Valeri, for an exquisite travel blog. It's been sheer delight to travel with you, savoring the photos, learning the customs, taking in the landscapes and sea views, and the food! Well, I can almost taste it. I've especially enjoyed hearing of Roy's adventures with coffee; these vignettes remind me of favorite places I've enjoyed a great brew, and your dad's spot-on - nothing beats a great bean and a careful press. It's all been as though we've been traveling with you. The writing is clear, vivid, sympathetic for subject and reader. Thanks again for it all.
During WW2 gas was rationed not because of a shortage of gas, but because we couldn't get rubber! The Japanese had most of the rubber in their territory. Rationing gas saved the rubber for the war effort. T know you are not going to believe this but I was there!
by Nicklas / 27 November, 07:00 p.m. I stumbled across your blog entry and I was glad to read it.
In your blog you wrote, that you visited a small fishing village wich was 45 minutes away from your island and that it was a quiet and down-to-earth visit in contrast to your luxurious island resort.
I can absolutely agree with your statement "It was a quiet and down-to-earth visit in contrast to the luxury of our island resort." I also visited a small fishing village, but regrettably not the same as you. It was in Indonesia last year. A friend of my family invented us to spend a day with him in his remote village somewhere in the ocean. I'm not sure if the island belongs to Indonesia or not, but one thing I still know is that this island was absolutely stunning and so beautiful that i didn't want to leave it. The village was so colorful and the whole population was so friendly. All in all, that was an amazing trip.
As well I want to add, did you know, that you can spend all of your time in these small villages. I mean How cool is that, but i even like to point out that not every village is equally beautiful. That means, it could be an absolute flop.
I would appreciate it if I can spend all my holidays on this island in Indonesia.
Considering the fact that I'm living in Austria and still going to school, this will not be the case for a long time.
Thanks for taking me along with you Hi Val,
I'm making this note short, since submitting a comment on your blog does not work smoothly. Nevertheless, love being reminded of the diversity of life in India - backwater overnight, island visit, camels and more camels... You are both a great writer and photographer.
Andy's a swimmer, too! I've (we've) so enjoyed your photos and commentary, the lovely scenes, tranquil phrasing, the way you carry us along as you show us life as you see it on the other side of the globe. And now we learn that Andy Pettitt also swims left-handed! Your reports have been enlightening and such a relief from the gloom that is post-election Kansas. (At least we saved our Supreme Court.)
Hope there is more from you to come. It's all been such a treat, and thanks so very much for it all. Love, John, Rebecca and Themis.
Checking the crops So glad those Midwesterners are there to check the tea crop! They look all knowledgeable and erudite!! Is this like the best trip ever? So much variety and so many unique experiences. I'm feeling some jealousy here! Happy Thanksgiving!
Look at that pool! Wow. I remember that head nod from my time in Southern India. It was so frustrating - I felt like I could never get a straight answer! They would nod when I asked them if they had soda, but an hour later (with no soda) I would finally realize they actually meant no. It took me a while to get used to it.
Proper Recognition! Good on ya, Kyle. And congratulations. I get a sense that your wife and father-in-law may not have paid you due honor for your completion of the New York Marathon. I'm sorry that you had to go all the way to India to receive the acknowledgement that you deserved. Shame on Roy and Valeri. Shame. Shame. Shame.
David's comment about Kyle running the marathon... I don't know why you would assume that Kyle doesn't get any respect in this group??!! Dad said to tell you, it is not like only 3 people ran the marathon...thousands of people ran the race. Kyle is not that special! :)
I am enjoying your Blogs. I was hoping you guys were ok after hearing about the Train accident there. Please stay safe and give your dad a hug from me, Lori and Cleo. We miss giving him a hard time. T
Hello to Trish I told dad you are thinking about him. We took a long train ride, but luckily we were not part of that tragedy. Thank you for reading our blogs--we appreciate it!!
