Food I got the 'simple meals by campfire' that you anticipated. One morning I woke up and looked at the top of our van and the leg of sheep/goat/deer that we had been sawing meat off each day was laying up on the roof! We put it in the van and kept driving...and eating...
Water for Camels Valeri: Tell me about the Shamans. You might guess I'd be interested. I love how your 'problematic' camel is a shy and well-mannered personality. Great photos. They fit my dreams of Mongolia! Tell us more!!
Shaman Ceremony One of the expedition team members--the one from Mongolia--had been struggling with some health issues. She had met with multiple doctors and with no improvement, she met a shaman who told her she needed to have a ceremony to expel evil spirits from her body. The hope is, this ceremony that lasted for hours, will be effective so she feels healthy and strong enough to set out on the expedition later this month.
Perfect Pair Sounds like you and Black are going to be a great team! Love the photos! Camels and puppies? Can it get better? Sure. And bet it does, and when it does I am so grateful that you will write about it! Keep having fun and give Black a scratch for me!
Another wonderful series What an adventure, your accounts so vivid and engaging, covering so many details. Have too much fun, keep the stories coming; they're marvelous.
Camel Milk Manna! Hi Val, Not sure I had camel milk while in Mongolia - I seem to have a memory of tasting fermented/alcoholic camel milk (?). The sky looks unusually clear in Ulan Bator. JOY
Safe (and fun) travels What a fun essay about the beginning of an amazing, and spontaneous, adventure! Looking forward to reading more. Traveling mercies to you, Valeri!
Surprised! When I saw the notification that there was a new entry on the travel blog, I thought "What??? We (Jenny, Lindsay and I) were just texting with Roy a few weeks ago about getting together for lunch on a weekend in October! He never mentioned they were taking another trip!" Then I read your entry and smiled. So cool that you are "solo-adventuring"! Best wishes for a great adventure and safe travels (and can't wait to read the blog as you go)! :)
Yay! I love it. My own trip to Mongolia was on about 6 weeks' notice and I had to write several lectures from scratch! Things just happen as they are supposed to. Have a wonderful trip!
Reflection! Enjoyed your well written reflection of your "6 year old self". Makes me wonder what early childhood experiences were evidence of what I would become. Looking forward to following you to Ulan Bator and the Steppes of Mongolia.
First blog Yea Bobbi,
Great to know you have arrived. I'm not worried since I know you are a seasoned traveler. And, you know if necessary run towards Aussies. They are the most bad asses in the planet! Big news here is we should get rain.
Roy
I miss you Daddy! Thanks for reading the blog. I was hoping you saw that I posted. Don't forget you can read the other comments too. I miss you and Mom and the camels and Granny and Lambeau.
So Fantastic! You have done what I have always, always dreamt of, and still dream of, doing! And yes, all because of that song! Brilliant! I love that you did that!
City of Ghosts Hello..Thank you for your articles...I am originally from Ghardaia precisely Guerrara. I dont't see the connection between the title "City of Ghosts" and the content of the article.
Smoking club Since I had the pleasure of feeding your camels, I was also there when Christy smoked with your camels, and have the pictures to prove it!
Coffee There's a coffee house in Sister's, Oregon that is worthy of a stopover! Not sure it can match the freshness or ambience of your recent search, but worth the trip!
