MAE TANG 2 DAY JUNGLE TREK - PART 2 we got up for breakfast which was very basic an hard boiled egg and toast then the group split into two as some were doing the three day trek and some were doing the two day trek. I wisely chose the two day trek as my legs were aching and it rained heavily later on in the day. The trek consisted of going down hill but which may sound easy but it was more difficult then I had first perceived. I used different part of my leg muscles and and I found my toes hurting because of the downward pressure and at some points almost running down some slopes as it is difficult to go down slowly. I had slipped on many occasions even though I ... read more

MAE TANG JUNGLE TREK - DAY 1 I was picked up at 9.30 outside my guesthouse to do the prebooked two day jungle trek. I was feeling a little apprehensive about the whole trekking thing because my health and level of fitness has been really poor. On hindsight i should of done more preparation and made more an effort to be fitter. When I was at home i was a very lazy, undisciplined individual and on the whole i do regret this. My first mpressions of the group of whom I would be spending two days with, wasn't very encouraging for the simple fact that everyone was in their little groups of two. I felt like an outsider to a degree and at the start of the tour everyone kept themselves to themselves. But as the ... read more

CHIANG MAI HIGHLIGHTS SLEEPER TRAIN TO CHIANG MAI Since I had never been on a sleeper train I was kind of looking forward to this so i could admire the Thailand countryside. My train arrived at 10 pm and my second class compartment was located at the back of the train. With luck on my side, my bed bunk was at the bottom , which i preferred for easy access to the toilet. This was the first time I had to use a Squatter toilet and it didn't help with the train moving about. I found it very hard to use and I managed to completely miss the hole altogether. I tried to hose it down the hole but it went everywhere, it was a very unpleasant experience. When I normally go to the toilet ... read more

DAY PASS ON THE SKY TRAIN I got the tourist day pass for the sky train which cost 120 baht, a bargain because i made sure i used it to the max. Practically getting off at every stop to see what bangkok had to offer. To be fair i always seemed to end up at massive supermarket complexes which is great for the air conditioning but i was getting bored with the whole thing. I stopped off at a bar restaurant, had a few cold beers and headed up too Mo chit. This was a good decision because it hosts a large lakeside park and i had a peaceful afternoon sitting beside to lake. It was a good antidote to all the hustle and bustle of bangkok cities. It reminded me a little of central ... read more

WAT PO AND TAKING A BOAT RIDE IN A MONSOON PART 2 WAT PO I wasn't sure if we were getting a little templed out or we were just hot and tired but i wasn't really getting a feel for watpo thats until we came upon the ' Reclining Buddha' It was really impressive i think because of the scale of it. It was Enormous and photos doesn't give it justice of the enormity or breadth of the reclining buddha. It was well worth the visit just to see that. We took a ferry across a river for only a couple of baht and then we explored the markets and inner streets. As we delved deeper into the market we soon realised that the people also lived their aswell. people on stools watching television with their ... read more

THREE TEMPLES AND THE KINDNESS OF THAI FOLK PART 1 I was fortunate to meet a fellow Brit traveler over brekkie. We got chatting and we decided to team up for the day. He was only here for the day as he booked a train to the South of Thailand to meet his girlfriend CHINA TOWN First we explored a little of China Town, walking down side streets and alleys observing the thai folk going about their daily lives. The streets have a certain smell about them, sometimes you get a waft that is very similiar to a pig farm. I presume it's their sewage system coupled with the fact that it's very hot. I used to work on a pig farm so its wasn't overly unpleasant. We met a very helpful Thai gentleman whom spoke ... read more

BANGKOK SIZZLING HEAT AND A TAXI ORDEAL FROM BANGKOK AIRPORT The day started off as planned. I woke up , finished off the left over chinese takeaway for brekkie, cracked open the last can of stella, down a few glasses of wine, say my goodbyes to my family and thats it...job done..capiche..around the world for a year on my lonesome. I didn't feel stressed like i was a couple of days before but i think the dutch courage took the edge off. AIRPORT BLUES Things started going pearshaped when i got to Heathrow terminal 3..lets be frank here, terminal 3 is the most confusing place i have ever been too and it amazes me how people get their flight because it's absolutely chaos. I couldn't find my airline since my flight wasn't displayed on the ... read more

JOURNEY OF A LIFETIME most people say this will be a trip of a lifetime and im inclined to agree, but i rather look at it as a journey. A period in my life that im hoping will define me and help me just to scrape a litle deeper to find an essence of my true self. i do believe when we are out of our comfort zone we do learn more about ourselves. I think i have a tendency to wrap myself tightly with cotton wool because im a lazy so and so, and i love my comfort....its going to be weird not having a routine. that everyday is going to be different and challenging. As long as i can remember i have always had a sense of adventure and have dreamed of visiting strange ... read more
