As women, we are conditioned to accept and make do with whats in front of us: Don't dream too big. Don't think of all the possibilities. Shrink your world to fit what other people believe you can do. If you dream too big, after all, you might fail --and how would the rest of the world look at you then? But...what if we could make our grandest desires materialize? What if that trip to Papua New Guinea that you dreamed about all your life was really right around the corner? What if your voyage on the Queen Mary was within your grasp? Perhaps you've always wanted to visit the pyramids in Egypt, but your husband has no desire to leave the county, let alone the country. Maybe your desire is more personal. Upon doing some genealogical ... read more

Have FINALLY bought ticket to Buenos Aires! It seemed every day I delayed--the price went up! Proably because when I first searched tickets, it was during the HOT season. Now that it's cooled down a bit, I suppose its a more popular tourist destination. ANYhoo...I'm leaving from NEWARK (it's cheaper than JFK) for BUENOS AIRES on April 29th!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!... read more

So. Today you phone the Argentine Consulate of New York--you HAD sent an e-mail--at least you did *that*. So Now you know *who* you are calling. When you get the woman on the phone she tells you -- If you want to travel to Argentina, all you need is a Tourist Visa for three months. If you want to stay longer than three months, then you need to leave the country and renew your tourist visa. Then, the woman continues; If you want to *work* in Argentina, you have to FIRST go to Argentina ( b/c employers won't hire you until they see you standing in front of them), get a job. Then you have to get your employer to sponsor you. Then you get your "Precaria" temporary visa document THEN you come back to the ... read more

Step 8 Once you have your fingerprints and the Statement of no criminal record these 2 documents must be legalized by your local Argentine Consulate. Which is, of course, all the way down in NYC. You decide to look on the webpage for info about legalizing these documents. You go to the consulate site, switch the language to English, click on legalization of documents and it ikeeps switching back to Spanish the text IS ONLY IN SPANISH. There is nothing clickable in English on this website about documents. ARG. VERY VERY FRUSTRATING. You speak Spanish pretty well, well enough to order lunch and/or take the bus but these are legal documents here. I don't understand a good percentage of it. You guess you'll compose an email to the address provided asking them if they do legalize ... read more

Step 5 Compose a Cover Letter explaining to the Federal FBI in West Virgina why you need this Certificate of No Criminal Record. ie, you have a TEFL certificate, experience teaching abroad and you intend to relocate and work as an English Teacher in Buenos Aires. But you can't do that without a Resedencia Precaria (worker category) (one of the STEPS toward obtaining an actual Visa--not to be confused with the ACTUAL VISA) which you cannot obtain without this Certificate of No Criminal Record from the US government. Step 6 will be to take the Cover Letter, the money order and the fingerprints (once I get them--if I ever get them) and send them to the FBI in West Virginia. Step 7 Wait. Turn around time for the Statement of No Criminal Record: 30 days. . ... read more

Step One- Find your Birth Certificate Step Two- Call your local FBI. Ask about finger-printing. At which point they'll tell you: Yes, we can mail you the fingerprinting cards and a sheet listing what to do. I naively ask " may I come in and get finger-printed?" no, they just send out the cards. You'll have to call your local Police Department for that. (silly me, it can't all happen in the same building w/ the same agency). Step Three- You call the local PD-- they say "we're here 24/7" You go in on a Friday at 3pm. They tell you "an officer will be right with you." (You, naively think; "great, someone will be right with me." ) You wait and wait and wait and wait. There isn't anything to read, you wish you had ... read more

I was going to travel to Buenos Aires and simply hop the border to Uruguagy every 90 days and thus have my tourist visa renewed. This is what I did in the beginning, in Thailand, in order to get a visa-- I had to drop my passport off at a Thai consulate in Laos or elsewhere outside the country. Im not going to say it wsn't a pain the ass, figuring out the flights, vans, transportation over the actual border, the guesthouse in Vientienne, the Lao language, trying to order food BUT that trip forced me to whole new country, which I got to see and walk around in and I ended up enjoying the scenery. However, upon deepeer research I've read davesesl cafe forums 800 times and serched other periodical articles and blogs from North ... read more
