So sorry it has been so long since I've written. Hope everyone has a sweet, happy & healthy new year ... Its so cold here. Still. Yes. Spring seems colder than Winter! I am still sleeping in two pairs of socks, two pairs of pants, three sweatshirts, my hoods up and the small thin blanket wrapped around me in cocoon. There isn't any insulation here and there are these huge glass doors that lead to a itty bitty teeny tiny balcony but they don't really close completely. I have a very busy day tomorrow. I can't believe how busy it will be! I have my first student at noon. But to travel to her house, I have to walk two blocks to the bus stop take a bus (about 25 mins or so) up Rivadavia get ... read more

Hola out there, Long time no...write. And I apologize. There is SO MUCH to write about! But I do have some BIG news; I have found a new place to live! And will be moving soon! Bye bye Avenida Corrientes with it's many many pizza restaurants (which, if you know me, I don't like pizza) and its expensive prices I go to the mall mostly to window shop or eat at the Kosher McDonalds. The new location is much better. Many of my students are in Flores and THE LEAST I travel from Abasto is an hour. Sometimes, an hour and a half. So living in FLores will cut my commute in half!! Its a women's/ladies Residence and all the women are either working or studying. I am looking forward to being able to get my ... read more

I had such a good time last night! I met up with Emily (an American--from Vermont, actualy!) who knows Elvira (my boss at LV--where I'm working) who I met last Friday night at the dinner at Elvira's house. So...I met up with her roommate, Kirstie (from London) and Emily's (Argentine) boyfriend, Charly and his (Argentine) friend who gave me the Salsa lessons last friday, Luis, the end of the story, by the way, I guess it isn't so dirty, is just that we were kissing on the dancefloor and he has really soft lips and is a good kisser. That's it! and some more of their Argentine friends. I walked to Emily and Kirtie's apartment! It took a few minutes, maybe 15 or so, but its SO GOOD to have friends w/i walking distance! So we ... read more

I had such an amazing time at Salsa. We arrived late to the lesson, when I walked in, I was already confused. I tried to follow the steps, but I couldn't really see anything. I tried for a little while but then I was just pissed off at my total lack of coordination and/or rhythm (sp?). So I went to our table-- the one where we had put our coats and stuff-- to sit down and chill out. I think I was feeling sad that I couldn't folllow at all. This guy with us he was Emily's boyfriend's friend, Luis. From Peru. He said something like "what happened?" And I made a sad face and I said: "no puedo bailar salsa!" He smiled really big and he was like "si, puedes!" And (long story short) ... read more

This entry is out of order but it merits writing about RIGHT NOW (before I forget) !!! So here goes... Tonight, I went to this HUGE celebration for Israel at the Plaza de Mayo! I saw it advertised on these huge sigs on the subway, then this Argentine guy--who had an Israeli girlfriend for some time--Pablo, who sometimes works the front desk at the Hostel, told me about it also! He told me I should go. He was right. We were going to go together but then he had to work. I almost lost my courage to go alone but it started at 3, which is in the middle of the day and there was plenty of light out and the Subte (Subway) was running, so I summonded my courage. As I walked down Avenida de ... read more

Since I didn´t get any comments or emails AT ALL after publishING the first two entries, I was not at all sure that anyone was receiving these posts. But THANK YOU AUNT DIANE AND UNCLE IRA for letting me know you ARE indeed receiving the posts. So here we go... after sitting at the computer for god knows how long, I paid the two pesos for two hrs and was on my way. i didn´t want to go to sleep right away so I decided to explore a bit. I walked down the street slowly, taking everything in. I asked this old, wrinkled, white-haired dude in a sweater vest what time it was in my super-rusty Spanish. He got all excited. OH! Where are you from? He asked me. I told him the states and he ... read more

After ringing the bell, and pushing the door open at the hostel, the very first thing you have to OF COURSE is climb up a flight of stairs. Mother effing luggage. I brought way too much. After getting attled, took a walk down th e street. Bought some water. Decided to buy La Guia T which is the little guide to the all the bys routes in and around the city. Some kiosks didn´t sell them. SOme kiosks were out. Everyone was very nice, though trying to tell me where I could one. One woman even offered to let me look at hers. After a LOT of running around, I finally found a kiosk that sold it. 6 pesos. All that running around made me tired and I didn´t sleep well on the plane, so I ... read more

I'M HERE!! Its so amazing and overwhelming and wonderful and confusing all at once! I don't know where to start! Ok, I'm at the hostel. On the computer at the hostel BECUASE i brought the WRONG converter!! I shleeped that heavy heavy laptop and now none of my plugs fit in the wall. Very very very frustating. From the beginning more or less. I can't belive how small the BsAs airport is. I mean, this is supposed to be a vibrant, thriving metropolis where is everyone question mark They were stoppping everyone to emphasize washing hands and not sharing utensils etc because of the flu. I couldn't believe how many people were wearing masks on the plane and in the airport... After customs I took the Manuel Tienda Leon bus * I was surprised how easy ... read more

Today is the day!! I'm excited but nervous, too. I couldn't sleep at all last night. I woke up at 6 am this morning. My laptop is VERY heavy and cumbersome and delicate. (Plus all my bags!) I am not sure I'm making the right decision about bringing it. The thing is ; I feel I'll need it to send out resumes. But its so very heavy. I'm worried about physically making it from the airport to the hostel. I am sure I will be able to. I'll just have to stop and take breaks. No law against stopping and taking a break. I'm flying Continental flight 51 with an hour and forty minute stop in Texas. I'm lucky my flight won't be too long. But first there's a 3.5 hr drive down to Newark. Not ... read more

I've selected a cheap hostel. (There are hundreds in BA) Eight dollars, nine dollars a night, something like that. You try to pick a clean place w/ hot water, storage for your bag, wi-fi, internet, linen and breakfast included. I chose a particular place 'cause there was a good comment posted in Hebrew! I've made a reservation from the US, paid a 10% deposit. I only reserved the first two days because if you find a place that's cleaner or cheaper or closer to where you need to be, you want to be able to move after only a day or two. The hostel has a map online and directions that tell you how to get from the airport to them. When I get to the hostel they have wi-fi and internet so I'll set up ... read more
