We spent a fortune on the bus to mendoza. It was an amazing bus for the first 40 minutes then they bought us back to reality with a huge thud by putting us on another bus. Still quite nice but put us back into our budget. The journey was fine. As we arrived at the bus station a women approached us and asked if we wanted an apartment. Thought it would be out of our range but turns out its $10 each and the hostels were $9 so we took it. It was very small but in a good location and had everything we needed. We went out to book our wine tour straight away and nothing was really very good. So, we went to the hostel that we were going to stay at and booked ... read more

Only a quick note for Salta . . . . . We are finally in Argentina and are very excited. Salta is a lovely city but there isnt alot to do. We are short of time otherwise we would stay longer. We arrived yesterday at 4pm and are leaving tonight at 8pm. We have had a good walk around the entire city - went to go up the mountain in the cable car last night but it was closed. Were going to go up today but its really misty high up so theres no point. We both had amazing steaks last night and some beautiful wine and may go and have another meal now before we go. We are on our way to mendoza next, the wine capital of Argentina. Only staying to do the wine ... read more

We did get the 5am DIRECT bus to Tupiza but they lied because it wasnt quite a direct bus. We got dropped off at 8am in some random dead town which we still have no idea where or what it was called to this day. They said we would get another bus at 10.30am. Luckily we made the man give us our ticket back or we would have hadto buy a new one. We didnt get another bus though we got a jeep. At first we didnt think it was going to be too bad until they tried and succeeded at fitting 16 bloody people into it. That was an interesting ride. Took four more hours in total. When we got to Tupiza we found it was a really sweet town. Very quiet and not much ... read more

The 12 hour overnight bus journey to Uyuni was like continuous turbalence in a place. The roads were so bumpy it was impossible to sleep. However, a woman approached us on the bus to say she owns her own travel agency and offered a good price for the 3 day jeep tour we wanted to do. As soon as we arrived at 6am we went with her, booked our tour and were on it by 10am. Our group was 2 israelis, assaf and Leran. Two swedish people claus and ellin and us. Over the 3 days we saw the salar de uyuni which is the worlds largest salt flat which are remains of a salt lake. The photos we took there are so cool, my favourite ones so far. We went to some beautiful lakes called ... read more

Ok, last time I said we were going to try and book the boke ride again. What a nightmare trying to book this bike ride. I will keep the story short. Even though we tried our hardest none of the agencies could guarantee we could get home in time for the cheap bus to Uyuni which we were desperate to get on. So, we would have to go on the expensive one if we did the bike ride or stay in La Paz one more night which we really didnt want to do. Then when we agreed to get the more expensive bus we found out that it was full. We eventually agreed to stay one more night and do the bike ride. I felt so guilty because Nik wasnt even keen on the bike ride ... read more

Hey all, I think last time I said we were going on a pampas tour in the jungle. We had to meet at the travel agency opposite our hostel at 10am and as usual we were running late. I suddenly got a migraine which are rare for me but I was in absolute pain. Got a taxi to the bus station. The bus was a local bus and was the worse bus we have been on so far and it was going to be a 18 hour journey. It was cramped, stank of b.o and was boiling. It was so full that people sat down the aisles. This did not help my migraine but we should have known as our luck on buses is non existent. Had to have the window open the whole time and ... read more

Bus journey to La Paz was ok apart from being a crap bus with no leg room and stinking of B.o. God why dont people smell it on themselves. Or get good friends, when Nik starts to whiff I always tell her, he he. We also had to cross Lake Titicaca so we had to exit the bus so we could get on one boat and our bus got on another. Looked dodgy but it made it. Once we arrived in La Paz we spent quite along time looking for a hostel - to be fair we were being really tight. Found an apartment on the 7th floor of a hostel which fitted all five of us in - $4. We went for something to eat and thats about it. Next day, nik and I decided ... read more

Arrived in Copacobana mid morning, booked into a lovely hostel (hotel) with the most beautiful view of Lake Titicaca. We may be quite stupid as we knew it was big but we didnt realise how big it was - 230km long and 97km wide. If you see the photos when we put them on it will just look like the ocean. There isnt much to do in Copacobana apart from sit around Lake Titicaca so thats what we did. It is a very small town so we ran into Wale (fenchy) within about an hour of being there. We were just chilling out in the sun then Wale bumped into his dorm room mates. They decided that the lake looked so beautiful that they wanted to go for a swim. We thought this would be entertaining ... read more

We were not the only people getting the bus to Puno. Our chech republic friends Lenka and Yan were also coming on the same bus all by chance. We met them whilst doing the trek but they were doing it on their own so only met them now and again. Lovely people, just friends though. Wale (frenchman) was also coming but got another bus. This blog is going to be short and sweet. Remember my luck on our bus journeys well it just keeps getting better and better. I gave Nik the window seat as always because I am such a nice person, well this is going to change. We had the best seats, they were downstairs and had so much room with no one in front of us. Things couldnt get much better. Until . ... read more

We were left to go around Machu Picchu by ourselves and Nik and I decided to chill out in a nice peaceful spot. Then we took the long walk home which wasnt as bad as it was all down hill. Felt quite bad because we had tipped everyone else on the trip such as the cook and the horsemen (or should I say children) but the guide didnt hang around at the end so no one tipped him. I think some people were not going to anyway because they were annoyed at the way he dealt with the situation with stav (the israeli guy), plus he was a pointless guide. We were dreading the tips anyway after the demands for large tips on the galapagos, but everyone on our tour was roughly on the same budget ... read more
