Wrap up Well its been a couple of days since Ive been back and I decided to wrap this blog up. From Ayutthaya I went to Bangkok for a night to be closer to the airport. Those of you familiar with the videogame that got pretty popular in the 90's, might remember a movie also made in the 90's. Spending many quarters in the arcades on this game, I definitely went to go see this movie when it came out about 10 years ago. Apparently some of it was shot in Ayutthaya, where there are a ton of old Wat's and cool temples. I got to Ayuttaya smoothly and found the cheapest guesthouse for me so far on my trip. (100 Baht/$3). I got to Kanchanaburi after a quick detour in Bangkok. Once there I decided that taxi's were a luxury now, so I walked the 4km to where the cheap backpackers guesthouses were. I settled in and chilled out the rest of the night. The next day I decided I would walk to the famous (apparently a movie was made about it) bridge over river kwai. I got there walked down the tracks, decided the museum was too expensive for me to go to and walked back to the guesthouse. Deciding to book everything myself instead of with a pricey travel agent, I got to Krabi (and saved about 300 baht), and this time I was at a different pier. I had realized that the first time I had been in krabi I was at a travel agency pier so I looked around for the bus station to take me to Phang nga. I got to Krabi after being herded like a sheep from bus to boat to bus. I took a look around and decided that this couldn't be the place with the great kayaking so I booked a ticket to Railay, which was just a short boat ride away. On the boat ride I immeadiately noticed the Karst formations rising out of the ocean. Once we arrived on Railay east it was like another world, with the karst formations, Mangroves (which is like a tree except its roots are exposed), and very low tide. I arrived on Ko phangan after a short boat ride and again wondered around for about an hour trying to find a good place to stay. Since it was about a week from the Full Moon Party I know I would have a better chance at finding a cheap place to stay before the loads of people that would come for the Full Moon Party. Well I got to Ko Samui wondered around for about an hour until i finally found somewhere to stay. I ended up getting a Bungalow that is less than a minute away from the beach. The first day i just walked around and tried to get familair with Hat Chaweng (the part of the island I was on). Hat Chaweng is very touristy and westernized. This means everything is expensive with the pricing. So that means I didn't really do anything special on Ko Samui. This will probably be my shortest blog because I really didnt do much. As it turns out Aoife (pronounced eefa) decided to join me on my trip to Cambodia. We both got up around 4 am and went to the train station to go buy tickets. We got our tickets and we waited until we caught the train at 6 am. The train was alright it was a 7 hour train ride that i spent nodding in and out of consciousness, because of lack of sleep. Hey everybody, hope all is well back home. I know Ive been slacking on the blogs (thanks for keeping me on task Campbell) but im gunna try to write as much as I can tonite. So after I left Yangshuo it turns out I was not quite finished with China. I ended up getting an overnight train from Guilin to Shenzhen (a city in China bordering Hong Kong), and decided to stay in Shenzhen for a day because it would be much cheaper than Hong Kong until my flight to Bangkok the next day. I hung out in Guilin for about a week and didn't really do anything at all. For about a week my days consisted of walking around the city and walking thru all of the parks. I met some cool people at my hostel and just hung out with them for a little while just walking around town going to the local places and going to the night market. Guilin is a place to walk around and be outside, they have the most amazing ice cream (3 yuan/ about 40 cents) here and since it was was pretty hot it definetly came [View Full Entry]
