Coming here meant fitness to me and I didn’t really research or look into the backgrounds of Muay Thai apart from watching the occasional Tony Jaa film! Muay Thai and its heritage and history dates back over 2000 years and there are over 140 different types. I’d like to talk about parts of Muay Thai that make this brutal sport also interesting and very respectful. The Wai Khru is a traditional dance that dates back several centuries. It is a dance that fighters carry out before engaging in the ring, it is meant to honour the fighter’s trainer, Muay Thai and the country. The student dance’s around the ring going from corner to corner approaching and touching the post with a bow and prayer to respect their opponent and the spirits. In My first month I have learnt so much about myself. How I have the power to drag myself out of bed at 7am every morning. Easy for most but not for a lazy person! It appears I’m not as strong as I thought I was. My wrist hurt from all the punches, my hips hurt from all the kicks and foot still hurts from a bad kick. I am covered in extremely itchy and large mosquito bites and find it very hard to sleep at night. Being here is great fun and you feel so good after a workout but dread going to sleep and waking up with more annoying bites. I have been blessed by being able to change rooms which should help with the mosquitos and for sleeping at night for it has ... read more

As soon as I got off the plane in Bangkok I lost my body weight in sweat. Thought to myself I shouldn’t be wearing a jumper! Haha. Anyway spent 4 hours at the airport mostly talking to my wonderful girlfriend Abby, who is great at helping me not panic! I also enjoyed one last McDonalds before my fitness freak-out! As I was on my flight heading to Phuket I opened a letter from my girlfriend which was so sweet and filled my heart with joy, easing my nerves about what’s to come but also making me miss her even more. It was a short flight from Bangkok and I touched down in Phuket after an hour in the sky. As soon as I collected my bag and walked outside a zillion people ran towards me yelling ... read more
