After my adventures in Colombia, Im back in Buenos Aires before home.. how did that happen?! No idea myself- last thing i knew i was in Ecuador, i wasnt covered in insect bites, i still had some money left, and my bag was full of my un-lost belongings that were not covered in sand. Its funny the difference a month makes, eh! I had heard loads of great things about Colombia- everyone had told me about the friendly people, the beautiful scenery, the amazing parties and the gorgeous Carribbean beaches. It´s not as cheap as the South America countries I´d been in for the past few months, which was slightly traumatic (i seriously need to get out the habit of converting into Bolivianos!) but was lots of fun and I have met some great people. So Iv just arrived in Colombia (all good so far, very friendly people and even more importantly, some very fit guys!). Mission Get To Colombia As Fast As You Can has been completed and I am here for pretty much the last 4 weeks of my trip (when I get a flight to Buenos Aires for 2 days before home) so thats exciting. The initial plan was just to get a bus straight through to Quito and then to Colombia, but Im really happy I decided not to. I didnt stop much, but the two stops, at Cuenca and then at Baños were amazing and Iv got some great first impressions of Ecuador. My last 2 buses in Peru involved me being hassled a lot by some disgusting guys so that meant I didnt leave on ... read more

So after legging it to Lima, having a slight culture shock at Miraflores in Lima, and rediscovering Mcflurries I was ready to meet Carrie for a couple of weeks exploring Peru! It was really exciting for me to meet Carrie at the airport, but I did feel an overwhelming sense of responsibility for her holiday! I enlisted the help of a Colombian guy I met at the hostel to accompany me to the airport and waited...and waited... and waited... When she finally came on through the doors (looking impressively like a backpacker may I add- good transformation Carrie!) there was possibly one of the most dramatic reunions that even the passionate peruvians would be proud of. I think we made a slight spectacle of ourselves (think the beginning or end of Love Actually in the airport) ... read more

So this is it. After going on to everyone I´ve met for the past few months, I´m now actually in Lima, and picked up Carrie from the airport yesterday! yay!! how exciting, the Green sisters on tour :) So it seemed a suitable time to just update on the last couple of weeks since leaving Sucre, and basically up to leaving Bolivia (sob!). I´ve got a bit pathetic over this actually, and really idealistic over my time in Bolivia, everything is being unfavourably compared (diet coke costs like 50p here instead of 35p, things aren´t nearly so random, and so far I dont understand what the hell people are saying, I genuinely think I can only understand Sucre Spanish. Brilliant). Im actually being very unfair cos I´ve only seen Peru from the town of Punu, and ... read more

2 months later and im preparing myself to depart Sucre. This beautiful city is the old capital of Bolivia, and remains the constitutional capital. This means that it remains a centre of colonial architecture with white buildings, beautiful churches, a beautiful central plaza and a grid ike layout in the central old city. It is in the central-south part of the country and has a beautiful warm climate whch suits me fine. No more hot sweatiness like in Santa Cruz, and not freezing like Potosi. It also feels amazingly safe, its like a little bubble- I really couldnt have picked anywhere better to stick around for the past coupe of months... I will literally cry on the bus this evening! Having finished work on Friday I have had a few days to just chill out and ... read more

March 30th 2010

So I´m starting work on Monday, just for a month or so to save a bit of money, so thought I´d fill you in on my travelling prior to working! I will be working in a town called Sucre in the South West of Bolivia, in a not-for-profit organisation which has a school attached for locals, so will be teaching English. I have not even actually visited the town yet, but I have heard it´s small but beautiful so hopefully I will like. I have a few contacts there too so will hopefully be able to meet some nice ppl while I am there...! When I last wrote I was in the capital of Bolivia, La Paz and since, as ever, have taken a fairly random route going from the very west in the highlands of ... read more

March 18th 2010

I am currently in La Paz, the capital of Bolivia after a hideous bus journey that involved zero sleep and lots of bumps! So if this makes no sense then I hold the lack of sleep, combined with high altitude (its getting blamed for everything at the moment!) at fault...! I have only been in Bolivia for a few days and have seen the Salt Flats which were amazing. After staying in Santiago for a week after the earthquake and vaguelly looking for jobs, I left to Mendoza, a winery region back in Central Argentina and then headed (after a 4 hour adventure in Cordoba) to Iguazu Falls. AMAZING. After a few days chilling out in Salta I headed through to Bolivia after promises of cheapness which was very welcomly received! So when I left you ... read more

Hola mis amigos! Ok so it´s been a little while til I got round to it, but now I will write everything... you have been warned! and its ok if you just want to look at the pictures instead! I am currently in a town called Pucon in the Chilean Lake District, after having travelled through southern Argentina and Chile- aka Patagonia (aka the middle of nowhere!). Jan and Feb is peak tourist season in Patagonia as its summer, and because Patagonia is so far south, it is just impossible to travel through or access in winter. This is unusual for me becuase normally I end up at places at the worst time of year, so I have done well! Apart from the fact that peak season= many tourists= high prices= booked up transport!! So anyway, ... read more

Last day in New Zealand- eek! Not really wanting to leave at all, because that means it's nearing the end of my trip...though at least I'm leaving on a high I guess. Sorry mum, that does mean I've got plans to leave again quite soon, or at least as soon as my credit card starts to look a bit healthier! New Zealand has been the perfect place to come to end up- its tied up all lose ends. I've done all the activities I wanted to- skiing, snowboarding, abseiling, caving, white water rafting (thought bailed on the bungy I'm afraid...). I've met loads more cool people, travellers and locals (actually found the Kiwis among the most friendly people I've met). And have used up all excess funds! waste not want not, eh! Starting In Christchurch (pretty ... read more

August 27th 2007

This is my last day in Sydney! I apparently go from not writing a blog for months, to 2 in a couple of weeks, but I've had the best few weeks and seen some of my favourite things in Australia so thought it'd be a shame not to write about it before New Zealand. Like i said before, once I flew to melbourne, the plan was to go on a trip on the Great Ocean Road to Adelaide, and then on up to Uluru (I got told off by the tour leader for calling it Ayers Rock- apparently they dont call it that anymore out of respect to the aboriginal people). The whole thing was driving and it was knackering!...not that I was doing any of the driving by the way, but watching people drive for ... read more
