We left the Tucson area yesterday morning around 9ish and arrived here at the Donorma RV Park around noon. This park was all Mike's pick. That is our saying. My first "pick" was in downtown St. Louis, in the dregs of the city, abandoned buildings, homeless people lumbering about the area. Ha ha! Well, we ended up in the Casino Park! This one is not THAT bad but......when we first got here, I needed to use the "facilities" so I headed toward that area in the park only to find the doors locked. No problem, as many parks keep the doors of the shower rooms and bathroom locked so as to keep out the "transients". I then headed to what is designated as the office (aka living quarters of the manager of this place) to get ... read more

We are still in the Tucson area at the Prince of Tucson RV Park. We spent Saturday doing laundry, getting some groceries and just generally touring around the area. It is a nice area and there is a lot of building going on here as well. Much of the construction is encroaching on the edge of the mountains and, as a result the mountain lion has become quite aggressive , even stalking humans!! Well, it WAS their land first, don't you know? Poor things!!! They really are beautiful animals but I would prefer to see them at a distance! Today we went out to the Sabino Canyon area in the Coronado National Forest just NE of the city of Tucson. It is located in the Santa Catalina Ranger District, on the edge of this expanding urban ... read more

We are leaving Las Cruces and will arrive in Tucson later this afternoon. We kind of got a late start b/c we had a problem w/ one of our power cords which had to be replaced. We also ran out of gas in the night but we were warm enough b/c of the electric heater!!! Ah, the joys ofd RVing. But it could be a lot worse. We stayed at a KOA again and it was very nice. Just a ways over the Rio Grande, set high up above the city. I should have taken some pics last night b/c the view was so pretty w/ all of the twinkling lights down below. But we were tired and hungry and anxious to just rest a bit. I also needed to do some laundry. The laundry facilities ... read more

Travel Stop: THE THING????

North America » United States » New Mexico January 4th 2007

We ended up driving another 100 miles past Amarillo, TX to Tucumcari, New Mexico. Also about 3 inches of snow on the ground!!! Ridiculous. We hope to be able to make it to Las Cruces, near the border of Az. And hopefully feel some warmth!! Yesterday we did go by Cadillac Ranch where that Texan "planted" some Cadillacs. I guess he just had to move them so we almost missed them! But I did not have a can of spray paint to make my mark! It really is just kind of dumb. But to each his own, I guess. This is another KOA andswe had to shut off the water at night b/c of freeze warning. And it WAS very cold last night! It probably got down into the 20s. Then our gas tank went empty ... read more

WE left Jan's place around 8.30 am and headed toward Texas. We are on our way to Amarillo. Another gorgeous, but cool, day. Clear blue skies. WE are going through Weatherford, OK where there is this big windmill farm. I have seen them in some movies, I know and they are pretty cool. Also kind of eerie. I guess they are really loud but we didn't stop. The land is getting redder from the clay and flatter as we get closer to Texas. It has been a pretty desolate drive once we got out of Oklahoma City area. Very windy too causing less mileage per gallon. Ouch......We have seen "dyed" diesel at $2.11 a gallon but we don't know what it is!! Traffic has not been bad at all. Will add more if anything more exciting ... read more

WE arrived here last night tired but happy to see Jan and her family. Her home is absolutely gorgeous!! She added an addition onto her existing home where she lived w/ her Mom until her Mom needed too much care and is now in an assisted living situation. She designed this addition to accomodate her and her mom. It is just lovely. The "other" house is now occupied by her daughter, Nikki and her husband, PC and their kids. Jan and Paul designed the house and it really is a piece of art!! Jan has a real knack for decorating!! Today Jan treated us to an excellent tour of Jenks and the surrounding area as well as Tulsa. We really liked Tulsa. It reminded us a lot of Grand Rapids. Housing construction in Jenks is HUGE!!!! ... read more

We are now on our way to Jenks to see our friend Jan. New Year's Eve was pretty uneventful. We had dinner at the casino which was your usual casino buffet fare. We were tired from walking around downtown all afternoon. Had a few brews but went to bed just after midnight. It was pretty cold last night and this morning. BUT...... NO SNOW!!!! It is sunny today and not a cloud in the sky. Meghan and Matt got us a GPS system and it is fantastic! We just program it, it tells us where to turn, when to do it etc!!! It was a little confusing at first, but once I figured it out (being the geek at heart....), it was easy to configure. So no new pictures today. I will take some when we ... read more

We got up early again. Rain. And lots of it! WE stayed in a KOA which was nice but lots of standing water on our RV lot. It is such a pain to pack up in the rain. This KOA was quite nice and they served Belgian waffles for breakfast (free, of course!!) on Sundays. I am not a big breakfast fan but Mike is so he was happy w/ the waffles. Now we are headed to Missouri. Tomorrow we are going to see our friend, Jan, in Jenks, OK. We met her and her hubby on our first trip out in 03. Her husband, Tall Paul, died shortly after returning home. We have not seen Jan since then but have stayed in touch. We are very anxious to see her and her family. We will ... read more

Believe it or not, Mike actually rolled out of bed shortly after the alarm went off at 5.30 am! Anyone who knows Mike, knows that he is NOT a morning person. I got up and Mike announced that we was sleeping til 6. I figured as much but as I was getting ready in the other bathroom, I heard the shower go on in the other bathroom! WOW!!!!! I was ready in my usual 15 mins and got the rest of the stuff into the truck and RV. Kitties settled in quite nicely after about 15 mins of crying! Jazzy is much better than Misty who is the big MOUNTAIN kitty!! WE were on the road by 7 pm. It took us 2 days to get this MOFO packed and I am sure we brought too ... read more
