Friday was all about the mad dash to Marietta, ga where a friendly face awaited with room and board. But the drive didn't come without it's own story. First, just outside Montgomery we hit some of the only non-city traffic on the entire trip. Bad accident that needed medivac support stopped traffic to the point people were out of their cars walking around. Saw the helicopter land and take back off a few moments later, and things cleared up pretty quickly afterwards.  BUT, we didn't get very far before the temperature gauge went nuts and forced us to the side of [View Full Entry]

Dinner at the Alpine was tremendous. Holly, recently transplanted from brooklyn as a casualty of a wall street lay off, brought us bbq'ed shrimp and blackened catfish with a side of veggies and a jambalaya that was so good i had to ask for seconds. Apparently a second side of jambalaya meant a huge vat of the stuff. She also brought a cup of some creamy seafood stuff that she said she always adds to hers. I should've asked was it was, because now jambalaya won't ever taste the same without it. As for the tomato base controversy, there is no [View Full Entry]

Where did we leave off? Just outside San Antonio? Not much going on inside the city either. Strange, though, how you could not care about something like the Alamo for so long, then when you're there, it seems like the most interesting, important thing in the world. Davey Crockett was a bad ass...but a questionable dresser. Everyone else is dressed as a soldier, and he's wearing leather suits? Davey Crockett: the first metrosexual? San Antonio's river walk is nice, mostly chain restaurants and cheap gifts shops. We ate at Dick's Last Resort, "Ever been here before? We're called dicks bec [View Full Entry]

Texas is really big and really boring. At least it isn't 100+ degrees anymore. Been driving since 10pm last night, with only the brief stop in fort Stockton, and we're still about an hour west of San antonio. Mike and ben had a soduku battle of some sort earlier that raged on for several hours - I think a winner has yet to be declared (though I think it's safe to call the both losers in this case). Did I mention texas is boring. Walk off win for the yanks tonight, wish I had seen it. Seems like we're on a [View Full Entry]

Slide rock state park, just outside sedona, somehow called out to us as we drove by, "turn around! Come back and stop here! Slide down my creek like a huge waterfally water slide!". Who could say no to something like that? Not us. Good times, though tough to explain what we were actually looking at, or doing. So I won't. Trust that it was a good time, and that you're a little jealous.  We got into sedona in time to see the outside of the chapel of the holy cross, built into the side of a mountain, before the sun went [View Full Entry]

The grand canyon is impressive. Very impressive. And enormous. Enormous and impressive.  There's no way to take in the whole thing, or even wrap your head around the whole thing, while you're standing at the rim. Is the width most startling? Or the depth? The age? It's a combination I think. And it's not just big and ugly. The colors of the rocks, the winding paths, vegitation and wildlife, the huge Colorado river that looks like a babbling brook from that elevation - this place is awe inspiring.  We finally got somewhere on time, and immediately split into man group and [View Full Entry]

Arrival in Vegas was several hours late - hot, tired and frustrated. But screw it, were in Las freaking Vegas!  Check in took way too long so we sent the girls to start getting ready in jackies room (lunch boxs sister, who flew in that night and brings us back to 6 travelers) and I headed straight to the roulette table to find out what kind of stop this would be. Black hits twice, I'm satisfied, and ready to get cleaned up.  Best shower ever, couple pregame beers and we hit the strip. I didn't realize that the smaller bars and [View Full Entry]

Fog. Fog. Fog. Route 1, a longer version of the drive from san Fran to LA that's supposed to be all about the scenery, was nothing but fog for most of the trip. Which was a drag, but the fog was pretty impressive itself. Up  from the water, it seemed to pour upward, spilling on to the road in a very surreal way. Got to LA in time to sleep in a walmart parking lot once again. Without much of a plan for the day we dropped mmr and korina off at hertz; they rented a car to meet up with korinas [View Full Entry]

Seriously,  my bad on the lack of updates. This time I have no good excuse. But think of it this way: you've got a lot to read right now.  Woke up in a walmart parking lot in reno and mmr drove us down to tahoe, ca where we went to Sunday morning mass in a little church a few blocks off the lake. Tahoe isn't the resort town I thought it would be, but it's a place I could probably get lost in for a few years. Mass was fun - it was their preists 2nd weekend out of seminary and [View Full Entry]

What you fail to realize, K, is that breck and avalanche amber have been around since 1990. The hockey team didn't move down from Canada til 1995. The chose the name avalanche knowing full well the beer was already popular locally. And star wars references are lame. Annnnyway: Denver to Reno today. Look up the mileage on that. I'll wait. Done? Don't act like you're not impressed. We hustled today, but still found time to snap off a few shots in a town called dinosaur, Colorado. We passed through at 11 am. The post office, town hall, gift shop and a [View Full Entry]
