Rowntree P.S cares about Lyndsey's quest - From: ...And then I got Malaria...
As of June 30, 2006, the staff and students at Rowntree P.S in Brampton, Ontario, Canada, raised over $2,500.00 for Future Island school. The school also sent many needed resources to make teaching effective. The fundraising has not stopped.... We'll continue in September 2006. The Mayor of Brampton, Ontario, Canada, Susan Fennell, congratulated the students, community and staff when they raised $1,500.00 in mid June. Mayor Fennell also contributed to the fundraising. The staff and students plan to continue their fundraising activities during the 2006-2007 school year. Thank you Lindsey for sharing your quest with us. We are a new school and our building cost in the millions. We want to share our enthusiasm with the children of Offinso by continuing our fundraising. If your reading this blog, then you care. Help fundraise. Together we can make a difference! Lots of love Lindsey, Kyra, staff, R.P.S. community and students

I am completely amazed at what you get up to!! Amazed and awed ... a lesser person would have avoided the crocodile in a dress, but "our Lindsey", well she just went ahead. P.S. Why were you wearing a dress? On a more serious note, relieved to hear that the malaria incident is passed ... Love the photos!!

Your Aunt Bev
a suggestion - From: Kittens in my Classroom?
I would make chart stories using the words you have been working on with the kids. You can make a story about the new kittens to make it interesting for them. Any other ideas that catch their interest and incorporate the words they have learned. You can do all sorts of things with the chart stories. Cut up the sentences into strips and have them put it back in order. Have them write their own ending. Blank out some of the words in the chart story and have them put in the right word etc. Hope this helps. You can always email me at b_townsend@sympatico.ca. Aunt Bev

I'm no teacher... - From: Kittens in my Classroom?
I'm no teacher, but I know a little bit about memory (ah, cognition class...). Perhaps instead of giving them LISTS of words to read, give them STRINGS of words to read - you know, like, sentences? ;) And, if you're working one on one with them, maybe you could ask them to explain what the sentence MEANS - proving that they understood what they read, not just spoke what they read. ...If that makes sense. I miss you! I love you! And happy birthday! (It's still June 5th, here...I'm not late!)

Lindsey one of the best creations of the weathier nations in the past 50 years is organizations like the Peace Corps which seems similar to what you are doing. However, we are indeed blessed that people of your calibre would volunteer for such a personal challenge. I salute you with respect. Hi Anchal....

it all sounds so incredible lindsey. I can imagine everything in my head so clearly, because its not tht much different from some of the small villages i've visited in india. lol, ive dealt with no "light" consistently (which is what we call electricity back home), and also have had the pleasure of bathing with bucketed water, though not rainwater. =) Keep smiling! and you'll do beautifully at teaching. I just know it.
