The Medieval town of Rhodes is located in the NE side of the island and is surrounded by a brick wall that use to protect the old city from the invaders. Now it is dedicated to commerce and tourism but the site is very interesting. The Medieval castle and the three windmills are the most important landmarks.... read more

The nymph Symi mated with Poseidon, the god of the seas and gave birth to Hthonios who became the first leader of the island. Glayos was the first inhabitant, good swimmer and sailor that tought his habilities to the every one. The Island sent 3 ships to the Trojan war in Homer's "Iliad". In 1309 was conquered by the knights of St. John followed by a period of prosperity where shipping, sponge diving and boat building flourish. Symi was conquered by the Turks in 1522 but had privileges like freedom of religious expression and speech. In 1912 was occupied by Italy, In 1944 the English took over and the region was bombarded and destroyed. In 1945 they surrender to the Germans and 1948 became Greek as it is today. The Island is rich in music festivals ... read more

At night Symi is gorgeous and very cozy with all the colorful lights. Locals are very friendly. Apparently some of them live in Athens during the winter and have a business here during the summer. The owner of one of the internet cafe copied a bunch of traditional music into my smart stick. ... read more

The island is named after one of poseidons sons. Quick run across from Turkish waters back to Greeks. Beautifull village on the hills of a cove in a dry island. We went across a shortcut that put us right into the cove. Very colorfull italian almost venetian village. Touristic waterfront with nice restaurants and shops. Village of night fairies and weather premonitions. Last night and treated myself with some stone rings, organic greek cotton clothes, dark chocolte and pistaccio bars.... read more

Small villa with a lot of bees and very expensive honey. The town wakes up very early when I went for my sunrise walk most of the stores were already going. The waterfront in the evening is very cozy it is not touristic and it feels very homy. Lots of the charter "gulets" stop here for the inexpensive shops and restaurants then they continue island hopping. I now want to collect some contact info on their captains maybe I can come back and work in one of them another summer. It would be a dream to buy one of them and charter it around the world. They are just beautiful.... read more

Georgeous medival castle that has an underwater archeological museum. It remainds me St. Augustin, Fl because of the medieval atmosphere. We were lucky enough to moore right in front of the castle. At night the view is much better but my new camera sucks for night time piccs. It is a pretty busy marina not as touristic as Kos but very touristic. Some beautiful gulets like in Kos but not as many or as pretty. Much more green than Greece and I got the feeling that the Turkish are more proud of their roots than the greeks. Very friendly. Something that freaked me out: The muslams praying to ala in the streets. ... read more

We started to see more green. When we pulled up in our first Turkish Island there was a regatta going on and it was incredible to watch the colorful sails. Today I had to wash the boat by myself and couldn't find my green card so I started to hate the job. Everything sucked at the moment.... read more
