Clover & Scott

Whiskeyspoke

Welcome all to the adventures of Clover and Scott. As most of you already know, we've hung up our corporate spurs, placed our domestic lives into brown boxes with labels that now reside in a storage facility, and have purchased our Around the World Tickets!!!

It's time we took our path through the yellow wood.

"A poem begins with delight and ends with wisdom." Robert Frost So we decided to slip away to a little train caboose on the edge of a snowy hill overlooking some splendid hot springs. It was clover's 31th Birthday and we wanted nothing more then to pull the plug on all of the goings on of the world while we slipped away for 3 days. Answering our call is a developed hot springs north of Steamboat Springs Colorado called Strawberry Hot Springs. Steamboat Springs used to be inhabited by the Yampatikas Utes until they were later forced to move to reservations over in Utah around 1879. Boggles the mind to imagine getting bounced out of a beautiful mountain valley with hot springs to a cold desolate reservation over in Utah. Some sins will take a long ... read more

"Worry is rust upon the blade." John Lubbock Give up the traveling road you say.... Rubbish! And so once again we found ourselves upon the open road going from point A to point B. Sure there's the minutia of moving from Oregon to Colorado Take #2. But whats a trip without the side detours. "All that matters is that two stood against many" (slips into a Conan based fantasy where clover wears a skimpy loin cloth as we ride out into the open wastelands). First stop of note, Hart Mtn. Hot Springs. If you find yourself with time to spare while passing through Lake View Oregon then we highly suggest stopping by to enjoy this little treasure trove of delights. Not only can you view one of the largest fault block exposures in North America but ... read more

"Home is not where you live, but where they understand you" (Christian Morganstern) Once again our room is filled with piles of boxes and sorted objects with the distinctions of 'going' or 'staying' as we prepare to leave shortly. The day is set or at least as much as we can possibly set where we'll jump back into our truck and began our hot spring journey back to Colorado. The bowl of fresh garden snow peas sitting besides my computer reminds me that time has been well spent back here in Oregon. In most cases it has been a rare treat to return to our home area where we were both raised. Albeit we've found we can't name a road for the life of us. Directions around these parts come from the memories where other folk ... read more

After much ado, it is time to come out of hiding. With grand plans of catching up on blogs of traveling through Europe when we got back to the States, we promptly wrote of nothing on arrival. So with a much belated edition to the series I am hoping to resume our blogs by starting out where we ended up before getting back into where we were. Err...yah, hope you got that... Our ship has landed...our itchy travel feet sated for the time being. Grand Junction, Colorado is our new found home. The name of the town is nothing much. It is what you may describe as an all American blue collar town. Women don't walk around tottering on pricey heels. Men don't pound the pavement to press the flesh in freshly ironed suits. It's a ... read more

(Clover) Off the Plane from Amsterdam where everyone speaks English into Spain. Thank god for Scott's Spanish. His Spanish was actually really helpful in Italy as well. It was incredibly helpful. Rarely will you run into anyone that speaks English in Spain and the further off the track you go the harder it is to find that person. But that is why we travel :) The first hurdle was to find the a bus or a subway to Barcelona. One that actually went where we needed to go lol. We had an address and a phone number. Easy? Woo whee not always the case. We stumbled around the airport trying to make sense of signs and directions from the info desk that were in broken Spanish. Oh yah...broken Spanish. I only know a fractional amount of ... read more

I will start out by saying Amsterdam is pretty sweet. Off the plane we took a pristine clean subway into town. Town wasn't where we would be staying though. Way too spendy. Our destination was further out of the city at a camp ground. Unlike some arrivals where we had to find our bearings in a strange new city in the waning hours of the day we arrived at the noon hour. Plenty of time to stumble about. It was a gorgeous day. High sun in a full blue sky. Off the subway we tottered with our huge bags with a very badly designed map that made no sense. Lucky for a us a nice man riding a bike spotted us right away as campers and pointed us in the right direction. From day one we ... read more

(Clover) Arriving in Rome was the finale of a one taxi ride, ten hour night ferry, one flight, three metros and a minivan. To say the least we were exhausted when we arrived at our campground after dark to set up our tent. To top it off it was raining. Now there is a man in Italy who runs a check in counter that is on my "evil person" list for being the most unhelpful. It is concluded Scott has way more patience than me. Just so you know there aren't very many people on my "evil person" list. Lucky for us the rain wasn't very heavy and by morning it was gone. Blue skies. Which was very lucky for us. The crummy tent we got in Asia was exceedingly crummy. Every stitch was a tiny ... read more

Lazy days on the Greek islands

Hmmm...there is something elusive about the islands of Greece. It is sooths your mind and makes you forget all sense of time. That is until a hairy greek man and his diva woman with huge Hellenic hair, big glasses and red lips almost drive over you on his motorcycle as you try to cross the road. You let him pass, because there are no other options and how dare you get in the way, and your mood sweeps back over you yet again. The streets are all narrow and the balconies drip layers greenery and flowers from potted plants. Now and again you pass someone singing to themselves. Though they sing loud enough for an audience but they pay no mind to anyone who may have noticed. They could be singing the latest hip hop song ... read more

(Scott) Another day another monumental snap undertaken. A snap is what Clover and I have taken to calling the dramatic changes one undergoes when you board a plane and in an undisclosed amount of time arrive in a totally new totally strange setting. Mind you, for us the "Snap" only occurs when we jump from one region to another, like say going from L.A. to Fiji, or Perth to Singapore, or in this case KL to Athens. One minute your ordering rice and noodles with little sardine fishies on the side for breakfast, the next your getting a gyros (pronounced more like EUROWS) with a thimble full of strong coffee. Still can't understand how to two gulps of coffee equates out to $2.00. Albeit it's nice and strong, but for two tiny sips they'd better be ... read more

(Clover) After ambling our way through Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, Loas we have found our selves back down in Malaysia again. This time in Borneo Malaysia. And this time a tad bit more seasoned. Nothing seemed as daunting as it had been before when we first got to S.E. Asia. Asia can be a bit over whelming. Everything about it is sensory over load. This time Malaysia was common ground. We arrived at the airport with nothing planned and only a desired location with out a clue as to how to get there. But as chaotic as everything is in Asia somehow things have a way a working out. We found a cheap taxi to the town of Semporna at the tick of 10 p.m. with only a few minutes to spare before we wouldn't have ... read more
