Wandering Nate

Nate Carper

This will be my first major traveling experience. I love to hike and camp, but so far it has been mainly here in the U.S. or Canada. I am traveling on a three month visa, but am definitely open to traveling longer. I will spend the first three nights in Figi just for fun, then will fly to Sydney and make my way up the east coast of Australia hiking, camping, staying in hostels, and doing as much as possible until I reach Cairns and the Great Barrier Reef! I will have a spot on the Aus-experience bus for the long distances but will mainly be hoofing it. I will try to go to New Zealand, but only if time and money allow. I will be updating my trip with pictures and info as much as possible, so please comment or write me oftten...this is the first time away from my home for more than a couple weeks, so I will be looking forward to seeing your communications! Take care and wish me luck, Nate. 😉

I am home in Bellingham. The trip was amazing and although shorter than planned, I got to all the places I set out to. Thank you all for taking an interest in my journey and for all your comments and messages as they kept me company in the land of Aus! I am planning to go to the U.K. as soon as I can afford to. The only thing I would like to add is a call to Sarah Lamont who is a friend I met in Australia and who is trying to contact me. To Sarah: I have received all of your messages and have sent tons of my own with no response. I think that for some reason you are not getting my e-mails or my "facebook" messages but I have sent one every ... read more

Hello all! Well, a lot has happened in the last three weeks or so. When I left Katoomba I had intended to do a fair amount of camping but things didn't work out as I had hoped. I went to a town called Bulahdelah to camp at the Myall lakes but was only able to camp for one night nearby. When I got there it was a longer trek to the campsites than I had invisioned and was unable to get a ride there. I started hiking up the highway (in the heavy rain) with my supersized backpack and realized the road to the lakes was about 7 kilometers all up hill! As I was slowly walking the road a nice kid stopped and gave me a lift to Palm Beach/Forster where I would camp and ... read more

Hey there! Well I have reached the end of my time here in Katoomba, and the days without rain were worth the days with rain. I managed to get another couple days of hiking in and the views that I saw here were unforgetable! The people I met and the time I had here will go down down as a top three I'm sure. If American's over 30 could get more than a 3 month visa here, I would stay alot longer, maybe even try to find a job. But alas, no such luck. So I am happy just to have visited this magical place. I may stay here again on my way back home in December...money permitting of course. ;) I am heading to a place called the Myall Lakes, where ocean meets the rain ... read more

Hello everyone! In my third week here in the land of Aus, and it is more amazing each day! I spent 4 days in Jervis Bay with my new Friend Rosie at her beach house in St. Georges Basin. It was great and Rosie was a great tour guide! We went to tons of beaches and the national park there, visiting botanical gardens and little towns in the surrounding areas. Leaving there , I spent two days getting organized at her sisters house in a town called Gordon. Marissa and her family, Cody and little Freddie, were most gracious! I left there thursday and arrived in Katoomba at 7:30 that same night. Katoomba is by far my favorite stop yet! It is set in the center of the Blue mountains which is a World Heritage National ... read more
