Black or White?
It's a black Rhino. The way to tell is to look at the top lip. A "White" Rhino has a flat lip that looks like a vacuum cleaner. It's wide, which is how the rhino gets its name (corruption of the German/Afrikaans word for wide). The black rhino has a pointy prehensile lip, almost finger-like, which is used for eating shrubs and bushes (the white rhino mostly grazes on grass off the ground)

My name is Jennie and i would just like to inform you that there now is a webpage called http://theultimatetourist.com, where tourists around the world finally can get some use out of all the photos they have, posing by different tourist attractions. Here you can choose from over one hundred attractions and typical touristic activities, upload your photos and collect one tourist point for each photo. Reach different levels and everybody over 80 points will become Ultimate Tourists (Remember you have to be in the photos yourself, to prove you were actually there, and i see points in this entry already.. :). So if you want to compete with your photos, or just spread the word, go into theultimatetourist.com Swedes are dominating the top 20-list for the moment. Challenge them!

Welcome Back
Daniel and Janice, Thanks for sharing this hurculean experience. You were part of my inspiration to take the family to Ireland for 2 weeks this summer even though my kids had never been on a airplane outside of California! And it was an amazing trip for all of us. Cheers

Welcome Back
Welcome back Daniel and Janice! I'm a bit cautious about asking the "How did it go?" question for fear of opening a huge can of worms but I'll just order another round of beers and listen.

Sounds Good
Your blog reads like an epic! Cant wait to see your turkey entries. Syria is awesome, we all prefer it to Turkey, guide is fantastic and people are genuinely friendly (not just after your money). We miss you guys though, certainly isnt as much beer flowing anymore. Went to Crac des Chavaliers today, you'd have loved it. xxEd/.

Vlad the bad
Hey Janice and Dan, You must be just about home now. What a journey you guys have had. If you were into learning about Vlad Dracula there is a novel I read on my trip (think I picked it up in the Singapore airport) called "The Historian". Really interesting combo of history and fiction. Most of the history is about Dracula and how he was connected to the Ottoman empire and many other places in Europe - France, Romania, Bulgaria, etc. A good read especially if you are familiar with some of the places I would imagine. ciao, Amy

Fantastic stuff
Love the Photos and the commentary Dan, I really like so many of your shots but particularly the old woman and the little dog. The view is amazing, and fancy the communist party that's a trip. Where are you at the moment, and how long do you have left of your trip ?

'Ahh The beared one'
...Hey Dan, glad the mask got some recognition. Not a masterpiece but certainly a memento I will keep too!! Your Blog has been very helpful as I shall plagiarize beyond all belief, and use our shared memories; to describe the fun to all the people I speak with. (Joke Ha-ha) Fantastic Pictures as well. When you get time could you send me a message to my hotmail, as I unfortunately have no contacts and would like to see how the Great Indo-chine loopers are getting on! ....Even Carol, who after a month of hassel may want to murder me! Respect for history -
My goodness what an incredible historic and cultural this area delivered. WOW! Very scary to think the power that leaders have over population. I am so please to hear you both are still of good health and carrying on adventuring the world........nothing in the business world has unfolded that would replace this trip....outstanding. Well done. Vancouver is still trying to shake away the raining winter spring......i must dig deep for patience....i think i am destined to live in a warmer dryer climate further south. Take care of each other and keep those updates coming i really enjoy them. Best. Will

Thank you for the entry!
I love reading your entries and this one in particular as I visited many of the spots you did. Reading this brought back lots of memories especially crawling through the Cu Chi tunnels and missing out on firing the different guns. Definitely going to have to go back for that.

Smaller elephants
As you are in Italy writing this account I trust you will discover there were miniature elephants (well documented in fossils) in that part of Europe as well as woolly mammoths. You must be having a full experience enjoying the wine and food in those parts to be so far behind in your travelogue. But your audience can wait. Keep on enjoying yourselves.
