Finally! Hi Daniel, I'm finally getting to go over there in just over a weeks time. Do you have any photography tips or hints before I get there I want to make the most of the landscapes and wildlife. (I'm re-reading many of your blog entries as a number of places in Ecuador and Peru I'm visiting you've already been too).
Black or White? It's a black Rhino. The way to tell is to look at the top lip. A "White" Rhino has a flat lip that looks like a vacuum cleaner. It's wide, which is how the rhino gets its name (corruption of the German/Afrikaans word for wide). The black rhino has a pointy prehensile lip, almost finger-like, which is used for eating shrubs and bushes (the white rhino mostly grazes on grass off the ground)
The Ultimate Tourist My name is Jennie and i would just like to inform you that there now is a webpage called http://theultimatetourist.com, where tourists around the world finally can get some use out of all the photos they have, posing by different tourist attractions.
Here you can choose from over one hundred attractions and typical touristic activities, upload your photos and collect one tourist point for each photo. Reach different levels and everybody over 80 points will become Ultimate Tourists (Remember you have to be in the photos yourself, to prove you were actually there, and i see points in this entry already.. :).
So if you want to compete with your photos, or just spread the word, go into theultimatetourist.com
Swedes are dominating the top 20-list for the moment. Challenge them!
Happiness Hi Daniel, I am keen to get your private email address and hope that you get my email address from this Blogg or what ever I am doing. I have never ever done anything like this before. Your life looks wonderful and I am so glad you have been married happily for 5 years and you have become a world wide wanderer making the most of every opportunity. I am keen to email you and apologise for my poor communication skills during those awful 6 months of work at you know where some 10 years ago.
Glad your are having fun. bye for now
Rachel
Great blog Hi, thanks for sharing Your experience. I remember the one legged one armed guy and am now wandering who he was or who was the pharaoh who cut off his limbs
Welcome Back Daniel and Janice,
Thanks for sharing this hurculean experience. You were part of my inspiration to take the family to Ireland for 2 weeks this summer even though my kids had never been on a airplane outside of California! And it was an amazing trip for all of us.
Cheers
Welcome Back Welcome back Daniel and Janice! I'm a bit cautious about asking the "How did it go?" question for fear of opening a huge can of worms but I'll just order another round of beers and listen.
Glad to see you both arrived safe at home! Daniel,
It was a real pleasue to take this journey with you, albiet by the journal entires. What an eye opener to what we all are missing.
Best regards - Al
Sounds Good Your blog reads like an epic! Cant wait to see your turkey entries. Syria is awesome, we all prefer it to Turkey, guide is fantastic and people are genuinely friendly (not just after your money). We miss you guys though, certainly isnt as much beer flowing anymore. Went to Crac des Chavaliers today, you'd have loved it.

Vlad the bad Hey Janice and Dan,
You must be just about home now. What a journey you guys have had. If you were into learning about Vlad Dracula there is a novel I read on my trip (think I picked it up in the Singapore airport) called "The Historian". Really interesting combo of history and fiction. Most of the history is about Dracula and how he was connected to the Ottoman empire and many other places in Europe - France, Romania, Bulgaria, etc. A good read especially if you are familiar with some of the places I would imagine.
ciao, Amy
Fantastic stuff Love the Photos and the commentary Dan, I really like so many of your shots but particularly the old woman and the little dog. The view is amazing, and fancy the communist party that's a trip.
Where are you at the moment, and how long do you have left of your trip ?
'Ahh The beared one' ...Hey Dan, glad the mask got some recognition. Not a masterpiece but certainly a memento I will keep too!!
Your Blog has been very helpful as I shall plagiarize beyond all belief, and use our shared memories; to describe the fun to all the people I speak with. (Joke Ha-ha) Fantastic Pictures as well. When you get time could you send me a message to my hotmail, as I unfortunately have no contacts and would like to see how the Great Indo-chine loopers are getting on! ....Even Carol, who after a month of hassel may want to murder me!
Happy Travels WW Wanderers.
Great pictures I LOVE your pictures of Angkor Wat! Unfortunately I didn't get a chance to view the sunrise or sunset there, but your pictures are showing me what I missed! I guess I'll need to plan another trip back there!
Respect for history - My goodness what an incredible historic and cultural this area delivered. WOW! Very scary to think the power that leaders have over population. I am so please to hear you both are still of good health and carrying on adventuring the world........nothing in the business world has unfolded that would replace this trip....outstanding. Well done. Vancouver is still trying to shake away the raining winter spring......i must dig deep for patience....i think i am destined to live in a warmer dryer climate further south.
Take care of each other and keep those updates coming i really enjoy them.
Best.
Will
Thank you for the entry! I love reading your entries and this one in particular as I visited many of the spots you did. Reading this brought back lots of memories especially crawling through the Cu Chi tunnels and missing out on firing the different guns. Definitely going to have to go back for that.
Nepal Daniel and Janice, I've always been fascinated with this part of the world. Thanks for sharing your experiences here, especially the part of Daniel as "wierd Mountain Man!":)
Cheers!

After almost five years of being happily married, relocating to a different country and many years of continuous work and study, we (the World-Wide Wanderers, Daniel & Janice West) have decided to take some time and go see those parts of the world that we either haven't been to or haven't spent nearly enough time in!!
I look forward to "reporting" our adventures to you over the coming months as we travel South and Central America; South, West and East Africa; the Middle East and Holy Land; India and Nepal; South East Asia; Australia; and Eastern and Central Europe... full info
