Train engineer The train engineer job reminds me of when you and Eric used to set up a line of kitchen chairs and pretend you were on a train, taking turns being the engineer. That was about 18 or 19 years ago. Time flies.

when you say the guy wouldnt let u rent a moped because u didnt have enough experience..how did he know u didnt have any experience? would we get away with it if we said we had driven one before?

Easter day Well, they do know how to make good coffee in Italy! Sounds like you had a nice cupa Joe for your Easter breakfast. And a relaxing day at the beach. Nice.
Drop dead gorgeous view Unbelievable views! Too bad you weren't really in town, but you seemed to figure it out. Even if you can't always find the bus stops, it sounds like I trained you well to find the greatest sounding pastries! Excellent work, Valerie!
Palermo is only for tourists So you'll have to go back to Palermo during the tourist season to see the puppetry in full swing. Even though you didn't get to see everything on your list, you got to see the town and a few sights. Looks beautiful, with the palm trees and interesting geology there.
Beginnings Wow! What a crazy beginning to your big trip. Good job making it all happen, despite all the obstacles you faced. Your photos are great. Thanks for those.
April Break Thanks for the update! The photos are terrific--I especially like the sunrise photo and the photos with you in them! I miss your smiling face. I can't wait to hear all the details!
fabulous Sicily! Hi Val,
Thanks for the quick update on your vacation. Sounds wonderful. We, too, have been to Taormina but not to Mt. Etna. Happy to hear that your trip is going well and hope that it continues to do so. Love, Grandma
I enjoyed your Italy post. I have always wanted to go there. My blog is looking for travel photos. If you have the time,
email us some at dirtyhippiesblog@gmail.com or check us out at dirty-hippies.blogspot.com
Continued fun on your travels,
Eric
Tours weekend Sounds like a fun weekend! The birthday party for Carl sounds fun. You'll have to make sure and include Blandine in your activities in Lewisburg next year. Your month of bicycle rental is almost over already! That "cough" will surely go away when the bike is returned to the rental company!
Berlin is Beautiful You packed in lots of fun in the few days you were in Berlin! The nighttime photo of the Brandenburg Gate is beautiful! And your climb to the top of the Reichstad sounds terrific. So sorry you had to do it solo. The night life in Berlin is well known. Nice you were able to experience it with people who knew where to take you to a good spot. Lucky you!
History lesson No history lesson is better than a field trip! It sounds like your trip was great, despite having to get up practically in the middle of the night to get to Normandy. Sounds like this was the perfect time to take your body blanket along!
Old friends What a great time you had with your friends from France! They were great hostesses! Hearing your stories makes me miss Karol and Marie-Ange too! They look great in the photos. You say that Tours is not style-savvy, but Marie-Ange always knows the latest styles. Whatever Marie-Ange was wearing, we'll be seeing in Oregon in about three years! So start shopping!
memories Hi Val,
Grandpa and I also visited Normandy, the cemetery and the museum but had an English speaking guide. She made it clear that she did not care much for Americans but was civil to us. Love, Grandma
I can't imagine what it would be like to be on the beaches of Normandy or go to the American Cemetery. I didn't realize that it's actually American soil. The first and I think last scenes of Saving Private Ryan take place (and I believe were filmed) there.
If you have time, a curious political science major wants to know why Kennedy wanted to punish France. I don't remember learning that in APUSH.
