I have enjoyed your journey along with you, one day we will do our tour of the Maritimes and see the things that you have written and photographed in your blog. Like the song says, our bags are packed and we're ready to go.... We are leaving on a 3 p.m. flight this afternoon and will have supper in Bucharest tomorrow. My sister has loaned me her notebook , so I ought to have internet access while we are cruising the Danube and will be able to keep up with your journey. See you when you return, and we shall swap stories and adventures that we have had.

Thinking of you too!

Great pix!
And I'm impressed that you guys are even doing the hostelling thing, so good on you for that. Keeping up with young folks is a bit of a tall order these days, isn't it?

I'm getting greener by the minute!
This all sounds like such fun, I'm pea green (as Scarlet would say). Just so you know, Ottawa is lucky enough to inherit a few things from Montreal - including Bixi bikes and Dunn's. You'll be able to revisit Ottawa's lovely canal on Bixi's. And we've added a "beach" beside the canal so you can seek a refreshing glass of wine while you dig your feet into sand...

wow
Sounds decadent!

Hochelaga...
... has a nice ring to it. Perhaps you could petition Pauline Marois to change the name?
15th September 2012

Petition...
I haven't seen Pauline around but if I do I'll mention it...

What fun
You make me want to get in the car and drive there toute de suite! Kath, I see your opting for the two-tailed hairdo. As I've let my hair get longer and longer, that's become my favourite option too, especially when travelling!I also note the omnipresent knitting bag. You are so industrious... Keep those posts coming.

heaven on earth
Canada is beautiful and must say nothing beautiful like that place. mother nature has created few places on this earth while she was resting.... they are simply amazing.. another one is stlucia.. and a holiday in stlucia is a dream come true... www.stlucia.cc

Melville Story
Imagine being stopped in Melville, Saskatchewan. When I was a little girl my parents and I went home to my grandparents farm in Tadmore , SK for Christmas. The train was still being pulled by a steam engine at that time. It was so cold that the pipes froze on the engine and we were marooned in Melville for hours. My grandparents had gone to meet us in either Yorkton or maybe it was Canora. They spent a rather fridgid night waiting for us to arrive but they simply accepted the wait as part of prairie and train life. Keep the steel rails humming!

From Jill
Aren't we lucky to live in these times? I hope K that you are not gossiping on the train. This is 2012 and people do sue. Love to you both, Jill

No gossiping
but lots of knitting! I met another knitter on board, and was told someone was spinning on the train (though I never saw her).

howdy
I have enjoyed reading your first 2 blogs and seeing the pictures, especially Roberta's intense studying of th menu. The train station on Wpg was designed by the same architect that built Grand Central Station in New York City. My Grandmother used to clean the station during the depression to try to support her 5 children at home. Across the street from the station ( that would be main street) there is a large avenue (Broadway ) that makes a T intersection in front of the station. Now when you are standing outside looking in that direction on the left hand side is the remains of Upper Fort Garry. It is now just a stone gate, but it was the first white settlement in Manitoba. There you have a little bit of info to make the stop in the 'peg more interesting. chat with you again.
