A friend in Penticton Salut,
I don't know if you've ever met my friend Beth Weick...but if you pass through Penticton and want to say hello for me, she's at 250-4937021.
Have an enjoyable trip back.
Happy Belated Birthday Katherine! Just checked out your trip, sounds and looks awesome! Thanks for inviting me to join you via cyberspace. Hope you get home safely and Happy Bithday Kath!
Like the Orient Express Hi Roberta and Katherine - I've been enjoying going through from the beginning and what an adventure. Really enjoying seeing what you are accomplishing in terms of sitting down and writing so often -- and getting the journal out the door! Especially a VAN door. Your description of the Ferry ride is great -- and I especially like that you went up to play on the Bridge.

Hello Vagabonds Hi there, I'm back from California and all caught up on your travel blogs. Sounds like a fine trip, all right...good food, good scenery and good wildlife. Enjoy. See you when you get home. Cheers, Audrey
Chilcoot territory Your blog is reviving many lovely memories of travelling in the area. Did you visit the little church in Barkerville? Did you notice the space between the boards forming the walls in the cabins, spaces big enough for snow to enter? None of the history indicated that those spaces were ever filled with moss or covered with branches during the winter; one can easily envision the inhabitants waking up under a blanket of snow as well as their own blankets or bear skins.
Over 30 years have passed since I last travelled the road from Prince George to Barkerville, Quesnel and McBride but your description indicates that very little, if anything, has changed. Lovely country.
Incidentally, if one has car trouble on those seemingly isolated roads, it's amazing how quickly someone shows up and wonderful that, if the driver is a local, s/he will stop to help. Personal experience speaking.
Keep enjoying the trip. Can't wait to see the rest of your photos one day.
Love to you both, Margo
great reading with pictures Hi, what a fantastic idea to share your holiday. I used to live in Kitimat and visited Prince Rupert many times. It is great that the two of you are having a holiday to remember.

Last Communication from Charity Hi Roberta and Kath;
Charity is about to be disassembled and packed away for the great move. She may not resurface until after I return from my trip to Colorado on June 22. I am exhausted but the house is mostly packed. I have had marathon efforts from friends. Quite unexpectedly my good friend Margaret's husband has given me two full days of help. I knew he was coming out from Ontario to visit his Mum, Step Dad, and brother who is visiting from Dubai. I never dreamed he would pitch in and help literally the day after he arrived. Martin was here for a the afternoon yesterday as well. My friend Jackie came and packed for two days solid and other friends have given me an hour here, two hours there and some evenings as well. Today it came down to simply throwing stuff into boxes without a whole lot of sorting. I'll have to sort on the other end. I've put a whole lot of stuff out on the boulevard for free and have been amazed at how things have disappeared.
Talked to Robin for a wee bit today. Haven't heard from her in a few weeks. Unfortunately I was pretty busy and so she is going to try to phone again tomorrow.
Well I must go and try to clear off my desk and try to find my bed. This will be my last night sleeping in the house. This journey draws to a close. I continue to enjoy hearing about yours. Have a Happy Birthday Kath and wish Becca one as well.
Cheerio for now, Orleen
Week Gone??? Hi Roberta and Kath;
Am loving your TravelBlog entries. I so look forward to them when they show up in my Inbox. You gals sure know how to have a good time and live in the moment. It just seems like yesterday you were getting ready to leave here and now you are leaving Long Beach. I found myself longing for some Long Beach adventure myself. Maybe in the Fall.
Must go. Have managed to avoid packing today. Unless someone comes over and pitches in I seem to be in a frozen state. After you guys left I was faced with some new job proposals. One was visionary and exciting but felt like the timing in terms of committment was not right. The second offer which curiously arose from doing some research on the first proposal was like coming home to a safe harbour. The long and the short of it is that I have accepted a 5 morning a week job back at Goosey which is now called Arbutus Grove Children's Learning Center. Will fill you in on the details later.
In the meantime have a great trip on the ferry to Prince Rupert and onwards.
Much Love Orleen
Crab dinner Hey, remember when we had crab for our July l7th birthday celebration on the coast. I remember Roberta walking out onto the dock and picking out lunch from the submerged pot the fishermen had just unloaded... (eh gads, here comes somebody..not me please, don't pick me..alas, four for the pot). I'm loving your stories and pic's. Lots of memories for me too - and many shared times with you two amazing friends. Continue safely.
Your travelogue reminds me of a trip I made to Vancouver Island and specifically Ucluelet in 1971. I slept on the beach.... something I wouldn't do now with my older bones.
Enjoy the ocean !
sleep and tall ships Hi, great to see pictures and hear about your early start without much sleep. Glad you say the ships and got medication in a timely fashion.
Kathy
Have a great trip you two! Your vacaton sounds wonderful...have a good time and safe trip...
We are going to the camp tomorrow and will start staying up there for the summer, of course travellling to and from work, but it's still paradise!
Alex is now in New Guinea, for a 16 day expedition. How lucky is he, this will be a life-changing experience for sure!
I love your BLOG or whatever...very neat!
Well, here's to summer and champagne by a lake!
Be happy.
Mosquitoville You will need the netting. Mosquito families like to picnic on nice warm city folk; they take bites out of their victims, fly to the top of the nearest tree, and laugh as they eat.
I hope northern BC enjoys having you visit and you enjoy her.
See you at the end of July.
Love, Margo
Vanita? With a name like Vanita, she is sure to give you trouble. Have you thought of a name like Hercules or Atlas? Yes, I know you are lesbians but a little testosterone underfoot never hurt anyone....
Have a great trip!
ghost towns Make sure you visit a ghost town or two around Williams Lake. One of them still has the original church and at least one was still occupied into the 1930s, I think. Drive carefully around Bella Coola; the roads may have improved since we were there several years ago but at that time losing an oil pan was a distinct possibility. And wear lots of sunscreen...worst sunburn of my life resulted from napping on the shores of one of those beautiful lakes.
There is nothing quite like the taste of a Kokanee Salmon freshly caught and fried in butter for breakfast. MMMM...
Have a blast. The area around Bella Coola and Williams Lake has a different kind of majesty than other parts of BC. It is beautiful. Sipping champagne and eating fresh salmon next to a cold river or lake .... wonderful.
Drive carefully. I look forward to hearing about your travels in some of the loveliest parts of BC.
Love to you both, Margo - Margo
