So folks...having slept most of the journey from Lake Taupo to Rotorua, Claire and I arrived at Crash Backpackers. The hostel itself was lovely but the arrival to the town was horrendous as the smell of sulphur and rotten eggs totally greeted us! It was enough to make any stomach turn but like most things, when there a while you eventually get used to it - or a bit anyway! Nevertheless, like many we felt it worthy of the name Rotten Rua as opposed to Rotorua! Rotorua was a beautiful town but the main memory which we have from it was the Maori Night - which was absolutely brilliant! By spending an evening at Mitai, it gave us an idea and history on the Maori culture and the world of Mitai. We were shown the natural ... read more
Hey all! So! With 2 weeks done in NZ and another 2 to go...claire and i were delighted to be wakened firstly during the night with the crazy american snorer from h*ll and then secondly by the annoying alarm tone at 6.00am as we boarded the bus from Christchurch to Picton at 6.45am! After a slight mixup with buses, Claire and i ended up being sent on an express shuttle bus to Picton. The bus journey itself was fine, but as it was a route we were on before we were therefore happy that we had a lot less stops...however, there was one unexpected one - ie, the one were a poor little girl was sick all over the bus!! But to be honest we were surprised that none of us were sick along with her ... read more
So! After a fab time in Franz Josef...next stop was Wanaka! This wasnt a compulsory stop on the journey but Claire & i figured we'd break up yet another lonnnnnnnnnnnng bus journey, this time to Queenstown by spending the night at the Purple Cow hostel - and we were so glad we did as it was the nicest to date! On route to Wanaka, we stopped off at Lake Mattheson famous for its near-perfect reflected views of Aoraki/Mount Cook and Mount Tasman, followed by Knights Point and then Thunder Creek Falls. Each of these places were more gorgeous than the previous & although we tried, the pictures still dont do it justice. The evening was none too stressful nor the morning after it as claire & I took a walk around wanaka looking at all the ... read more
So folks...first things first...HAPPY NEW YEAR to you all & i hope you have a great one! Well before we knew it 10 months of the travelling trio's journey had passed & 2009 had started! And if it was to be anything like 2008, then none of the 3 of us were gonna complain!!! We had spent 11 weeks in Asia and almost 8 months in Australia & had one of the best and most memorable Christmas's and New Years Eve's ever! However, although we knew that 2009 was going to be another great one, January 1st didnt get off to the greatest start as Claire & I had to bid a sad farewell to Joanne who unfortunately decided to escape home to the green fields that bit earlier than planned. So after having spent the ... read more

Hey guys, it's murf here again with a round up of our preparations for Christmas in Oz. Here goes..The girls and I had no idea what to expect with Christmas away from home. In a way we were looking forward to it but had a fear of feeling a little homesick. That said we made the most of our first Christmas away from the emerald isle and needless to say it was amazing. Our Christmas prep started in the first week of December with us posting home our pressies and cards. For those of you who were lucky enough to get something we hope you liked it and for those of you who didn't get a thing..we're sorry but my God the postal service in Oz is scandalous..i.e so dam expensive. Anyhow not meaning to be a ... read more

So…after July came an overwhelming August filled with one exciting event after another!! Who’d of thought it could top fancy dresses & Christmas in July - but it did! First up was the big ski trip to Thredbo! I had often heard of different people heading off to Australia to visit the great barrier reef…the Whit Sundays…the Sydney Opera House & many more of the highlights this country has to offer but only did I ever laugh when I was told - ‘if you’re going to oz then you’ll have to go skiing!!’ So you know me folks, not one ... read more
