My Eastern European & Turkey adventure from April 8-27, 2010 included 4 days & 3 nights in Budapest, Hungary, followed by a 7 night AMA Waterways Danube River ship cruise on the beautiful Amadagio with stops & visits in: Mohacs, Villany & Pecs, Hungary; Vukovar & Ovcara, Croatia; Novi Sad & Belgrade, Serbia; the “Iron Gates” and narrow passageways between Transylvania & Bulgaria; Vidin & Belogradchik, Bulgaria; Giurgiu & Bucharest, Romania; and finally Rousse, Bulgaria. My 2 week South Africa adventure started with a flight from the Sarasota Airport (Tampa Bay) to New York City just after their 14 inch snowfall so it was bitter cold in the Big Apple but some good times with friends in Manhattan more than made up for the cold.... Then a 17 1/2 hour scheduled flight from JFK Airport in New York to Johannesburg, South Africa turned into a 24+ hour trip after some unfortunate, unscheduled activity. After a stop in Dakar, Senegal (northwest coast of Africa) for refueling, we flew for several hours before diverting to Accra, Ghana due to a passenger's heart attack en route (she was pronounced dead on arrival in Ghana)...making the final landing in Jo-Burg a little solemn. After an overnight stay in Johannesburg, a quick 2 hour flight to ... read more

It would take weeks & lots of money to see & do Alaska's Inside Passage on land or air instead of a cruiseship so having a floating, mobile accommodation is best for this type of journey in my opinion. I've cruised Alaska both north to south and south to north the past two summers and I did not see a major difference although most people recommend starting the from the south and cruising north as the scenery gets more spectacular each day. I've cruised Holland America's Ryndam and Regent Cruise Line's Mariner of the Seas. Without a doubt, Regent's cruise was superior and I would recommend it without hesitation. The cruiseline touts itself as six star and it is backed up by many other experts and critics in the industry. My Alaskan adventure in May 2006 began ... read more

A late night visit to Ybor City on Wednesday proved to be a great time. I was able to get a bar stool at the always popular (and always hopping) Coyote Ugly Saloon on 7th Ave. next to the Green Iguana bar and grill. The night saw 5 women dancing on the wooden bar top just like in the movie and pouring shots into the mouths of waiting males and doing bodyshots off the abs of some of the bartenders. EVERYONE was having a great time with the music and dancing and it was ladies drink free night to boot! Security did a great job keeping the under 21 crowd out and despite the crowd, the bartenders were both friendly and efficient and they did not skimp on the tequila. If you go, make sure you ... read more
