Well, i've just finished 3 years at uni and a year as an auditor and soon me and my girlfriend Sally will be globe trotting for a year or so. I can't really go without writing some memories down and picking up some tips and tricks from other bloggers. So, here we go.

For those who are unaware what the DMZ is (as i was before visiting the place) it stands for De-Militerized Zone which is 1 of the most heavily bombed areas of Vietnam during the American War. I say American war as this what the Vietnamese call the Vietnam war. It makes sense i guess for them to call it the American War but takes a little getting used to. Firstly i should explain that we had arrived in a small cafe in a small town, 15mins away from where the DMZ border is, for breakfast as we had been on the night bus to Hue and were not to far away from the city. As we were eating our breakfast the shop owner asked everyone on the bus if we would like to take a tour ... read more

As we entered Vietnam for the first time we knew that your first ride from the airport to a hotel you usually get ripped off because you're getting used to the prices and currency. We knew and expected this, however we didn't find out just how much we had got ripped off until we left Hanoi. As we got dropped off at the hotel we asked for we got told there was no rooms and we got taken to a 'sister hotel' actually called Sister Hotel. We gave the taxi driver the $15 USD we'd agreed for about an hour taxi ride. We later found out that someone else had only paid $5 - Oh well. At the hotel we looked into booking a 1 day 2 night tour around Halong Bay which we saw on ... read more

When we first arrived at our 'hotel' in 'Krabi' we thought we'd been dropped off at the wrong place. We had booked the place through a large firm and been shown some brief pics of it by a fat welsh tour operator called Steve. We wern't really bothered where we were staying as long is it was in the town centre of Krabi. So when we arrived in the middle of nowhere and asked how far it was to Krabi we were told 35km away. Not exactly what we asked for! However, we did meet up with our Irish friends again and made the most of it. We later found out that the reason we were in that hotel is because Steve owned the bloody hotel and was making a few quid on the side! I ... read more

We took a short 'island hop' from Koh Phangan to Koh Samui by boat which only took about an hour. When we arrived we went passed many beautiful hotels and restaurents until we arrived at ours...first impressions: very cracked little concrete road and car park surrounded by a lot of little 'terrace flats', not exactly the same to what the brochure/leaflet had shown. However, we found that the room was clean and tidy with A/C and the bar and restaurent served good food and had a live band on every other night plus the beach was only a 5 minute walk away. So overall, not too shabby! ·Over the next few days we pretty much glued our selves to the beach and enjoyed (and suffered from) the extremely hot weather. Needless to say i got sunburnt ... read more

Asia » Thailand » South-West Thailand » Khao Sok NP October 3rd 2010

The journey from Koh Samui to Khao Sok was pretty much a nightmare! we were woke up arround 7:30 by someone who couldn't speak english pointing to a piece of paper that said "8:00 bus". We had booked on the 12 o'clock bus and had arranged to pick our washing us just before 12:00, so i tried to explain to the guy that we weren't meant to be leaving for over 4 hours and showed him our booking slip. All he said "ok" and wondered off. 1 hour later he's knocking on our door again and says "why you not bus?". I said to him again that i was on the 12 o'clock bus and we need to pick up our washing. He simply said "ok, no problem" but obviously the bus must have been waiting ... read more

As we pulled out of Hua Lamphong (Bangkok Train Station) we knew we had booked a overnight sleeper train but were having some trouble wondering where the hell the beds were. So around 2 hours into our journey we prepare our self for an uncomfortable night sat on any old train seat, until a man in a uniform come round and turfs us out our seats and starts fiddling around with something on the ceiling that looks like a overhead storage compartment on a plane. 30 seconds later and he's pulled a bed out the train ceiling and converted 2 seats in a lower bunk...things seem to be looking up! Although that didn't mean we got much sleep...Sal got a good 5 hours although she says otherwise! From the train we got a straight transfer to ... read more

As we touched down in Bangkok, one thing we knew would be there but still took us by suprise, was the extreme heat and humidity...one step off the plane and i needed a shower and some new clothes! When we got to the end of Khao San Road we got out the taxi and heaved our backpacks on to walk down to our hotel and were instantly swarmed by little Thai people trying to sell us anything and everything, from wooden frogs that make a 'ribbit' sound to a sex show (or "ping pong show" as they called it) to an entire basket of water melons to quality hand made suits. Now, i think i'm an understanding kind of guy but after an 11 hour flight and blistering heat with no sun cream on, this was ... read more

Arrived in Vegas and was instantly shocked before we even picked up our bags! The airport has more slot machines i have ever seen in my life. They had jackpots of over $300,000 all over the place with people gambling 1000's before getting out of the arrival lounge!Un-real! This is the best place i have ever been to and i cant wait to go back!... read more
