It's Sunday morning here in Ulm, Germany. Today we have to sort all our stuff and pack our bags and tonight we'll be flying from one side of the globe to the other - from Europe to the land down under, Australia! Hard to believe that the past 2 months of travelling are now over, that our 18 months of living in Tokyo are over and we are on our way back to Australia to begin our lives again there. The past 10 or so days here in Ulm, Germany have been fantastic. After soooooooooo much travelling and seeing so many people and places Cam and I were really starting to feel exhausted, so it's been just lovely to relax and refresh over the past week or so. I think over the past 2 months, since ... read more

We arrived back in the wonderful country of Germany last Wednesday, 22nd November flying from the not-so-loved Stansted airport into the quiet little airport in Duesseldorf! My friend, Sabine and her mum, Monika kindly picked us up and drove us to their home in Essen. Why were we visiting Essen, you may ask? Well, I (Meg - if you hadn't already guessed....) was an exchange student twice in Germany. The first time was after Year 11 in 1994 to Essen and the second was in 1996 to Ostfriesland. Sabine and her parents were my hostfamily then. Was lovely to see them after such a long time. Essen is actually the German word for "food" and boy, did we enjoy some very delicious home-cooking from Monika while staying with them for 5 days. We were very spoilt ... read more

Ola Senor and Senoritas! Well, I know your all chomping at the bit for another Cameron special so here we go with the fabulous Spanish edition of our blog. After our time in the cold and chilly climate of the mother country, we felt we needed a change of pace, so Meg, Myself, Iain and Carly and Jan, my mum, headed off to sunny Spain for a weekend away. Iain organised some fabulously cheap plane fares and we went to sunny Jerez ( pronounced He-re-thhh ) for a weekend of food and frolics. On the 17th of November, our trip got off to a rough start with that airport hell that is Stanstead airport. Full of weekend travellers, paranoid security and customs agents and cranky Starbucks staff, it was a relief to get on the plane. ... read more

Last Sunday morning (12th Nov) we caught the train from King's Cross to Guiseley, Leeds up north in Yorkshire. My (3rd) cousin, Lauren lives there with her husband, Ben and their gorgeous golden retriever Archie. I hadn't seen Lauren in nearly 7 years, so it was fantastic to see her again and to finally meet her husband. Cameron met them both for the first time. They have a beautiful terrace house and we really enjoyed our three days with them. Lauren's sister, Gemma (and her boyfriend), her mum and her grandparents also live in the same place so it was just wonderful to catch up with all the extended family again! Yorkshire is absolutely beautiful. The countryside is just amazing. Monday afternoon we took a drive to the Ilkley Moor and saw the Cow and Calf ... read more

Greetings Old Chaps and Lasses! Yes, Meg has sensibly handed control over this most difficult of portions of our trip, the grand bustling metropolis of London, to me, Cameron, your humble blog guide. We flew into London after the debacle that was Amsterdam, needing some loving from the Mother country. Some of our readers may not know, but Meg is actually half English - I know, I know, she tries to hide it but it's time for it to be revealed to the world. We flew into that grand hodge podge airport Heathrow and took a fast train into paddington station. Not yet corageous enough to dare the Tube, we took a cab to Swiss Cottage where my brother Iain and his nice young 'friend' Carly live. Well, technically we sat in the pub for an ... read more

Greetings all, As the resident expert on Holland, Meg has let me take over duties for blogging today. This is Cam by the way - that's right, not just good for making a monkey out of myself in photos. So what's with the weird title? Well, after leaving our fine German friends, we caught a train to Amsterdam. Our journey started badly when we we're unable to buy tickets at the train station and ended up paying almost double for our tickets on the train. This is due to the machine not accepting notes or credit cards, but the ticket inspector would cut us no slack. So Meg's first impressions of Holland we're unfavourable to say the least. Our hosts in Amsterdam put us up for the next two nights and showed us a little of ... read more

Moin! Moin! That's how people greet eachother in Ostfriesland, a section of Lower Saxony in North-western Germany where I spent a year as an exchange student 10 years ago and where Cameron and I have just spent a week catching up with old friends. Saturday, 28th October our friends Rob and Tina drove us to Leer in Ostfriesland. That weekend we caught up with my third hostfamily. It was wonderful to see them again after so many years. We had a great night out in Emden staying at a friends house and up until the wee hours drinking and swapping stories. The following day we drove out into the countryside to have breakfast at my hostbrother and his wife's new farmhouse. They had so many animals - horses, ponies, guinea pigs, rabbits. It was great! Sunday ... read more

Haven't really had a chance to really sit down and update our blog. So much has happened over the past 10 days. We've been catching up with all of my old friends here in northern Germany and it feels like we've been here for weeks. Thought we'd sit down and let you all know what we've been up to. Last Tuesday, 24th October we flew to Berlin. Our friends Tina and Rob were there to meet us at the airport. Tina is a school friend from my time as an exchange student in Leer, Ostfriesland back in 1996. She now lives in Oldenburg with her boyfriend, Rob and they both drove to Berlin to spend a few days showing us around there. What an amazing city. We had a fantastic little hotel right in the middle ... read more

Greetings from Ulm in Southern Germany!!! We arrived here on Friday the 13th and have been staying with my brother Warren and his (LOVELY) girlfriend Christine. Warren has been living and working as an English teacher here for the past year and Christine is currently studying medicine. They've both been pretty busy during the week, which has given us time to just chill out here and take it all in. Before the chilling out began, we had a jam-packed, fun-filled weekend when we first arrived. Saturday (14th) we drove down to Christine's hometown, Oberstaufen in the Allgau. We got to meet her wonderful parents and her two brothers. After quick introductions we were off to wedding!! A school friend of Christine's, Carmen got married to Bernd and the celebrations were fantastic. We were fortunate to be ... read more

Well, that about sums up our 4-day stay in Phuket, Thailand. Honestly the food in Thailand was absolutely AMAZING - we spent most of our time finding one of the the bars, cafes or restaurants at our hotel to enjoy the delicious food and cocktails!! We arrived at the Cape Panwa Hotel in Phuket on Monday, 9th. It is such a beautiful hotel. The staff are so friendly and welcoming and the facilities were fantastic. Our good friends Jason and Sarah stayed there last Spring and highly recommended the hotel and we're sooooo glad we went. (and highly recommend it to all you guys!) Our four days there were filled with relaxation. We ate.......got massages.........ate...........got facials and haircuts (note, Cam's super short hairdo)..........ate and drank...........rode on an elephant.............shot a .38 revolver.............ate..........did Batak Painting by the pool......... ... read more
