Weekend trip Mate Alistair and myself hired a car and headed down to Canberra for a weekend trip. Canberra is about 4 hrs drive from Sydney, so in Australian terms is next door. Though Canberra is a bit cooler than Sydney we had two glorious clear days of sunshine to do our site seeing. First stop was the Austalian War Memorial, and as well as having a wall with the names of all it's dead in conflicts it had a fantastic museum which went into great detail about WWI and WWII. Spent quite a while in here as there was alot to see. Over the weekend we did the Standard views around Old Parliament House and New Parliament House, where the counry is run, and the Senate etc sit for Parliament. Established on Australia Day, 26 ... read more

For those unaware, after I got back from New York in October, I decided to go back to Australia for 6-7 months to work as I have a work Visa until Aug 08. Arrived in Sydney few weeks after my decision, and have been working out here and living near Darling Harbour for the last few months.... For the Easter Break, I with a couple of friends travelled the Great Ocean Road in Victoria (near Melbourne). Claire (English friend met at work) and I flew from Sydney to Melbourne on the Wed night before Easter weekend, staying overnight before meeting up with another Pomme, Phil to spend a couple of days driving along the coast in the hire car we picked up at the airport. Great Ocean Road starts in Torquay (where Billabong and Rip Curl ... read more

New York New York, my final destination on my world tour, and the city that never sleeps......... Arrived on the Saturday morning at about 6am, rang about 6 hostels and found out they were all full for that evening. I was then getting quoted about 100 quid for night in hotel, which was way above what I was budgeting! In the end I Sat in a Hostel reception from 10am until 2pm just to get a bed (was gonna go looking for one of the soup kitchens if I had no luck)! Stayed in Hostel in Manhattan, 1 minute from Central park and 1 minute from subway. Though not downtown, Manhattan location was still good with good subway connections. There are quite a few must see sites in New York, and as I had 6 days ... read more

Niagara Falls From Orlando flew to Buffalo, just a short journey away from the US city of Niagara falls. Arrived in Niagara late afternoon, and after dropping my bags off in the hostel, made the 20 min walk from the accommodation to the falls on the US side (for those who don't know you can actually see the falls from both Canada and the US, with it being widely agreed that the best views are on the Canadian side). Went with Chinese guy I met at the Hostel to the Falls, when we got there it was starting to get dark, and it wasn't long until the falls were lit up by bright coloured lights coming from the Canadian side. Next day got up early and set off to the Falls, I decided to take my ... read more

Fort Lauderdale Landed in Fort Lauderdale approx. 15 miles north of Miami. It is another popular spring break spot with its long sandy beaches, being made famous because of a movie made here in the 1960's called "Where the Boys are". The weather wasn't great for the two days I stayed here, but made a trip to the beach, even though I spent most of the time sheltered in the dry of the pub across the road. Florida Keys Whilst in Fort Lauderdale hired a car for 9 days to drive around Florida and decided to drive to Mainland USA's most southern point - Key West. Once I navigated my way past Miami & its toll bridges, it was an easy drive . There is just one route all the way down the Keys to Key ... read more

Las Vegas As they say, what happens in Vegas stay's in Vegas, so cannot write anymore about it.... The Grand Canyon As the Grand Canyon is within a day trip of Vegas, had decided to go there whilst in the area. What I didn't realise is what a long day trip it would be! Left at 5am in the morning and wouldn't be returning to 10pm that evening. I decided to go to the South Rim (rather than the slightly nearer West Rim where they have the Indian walkway), as the views were described as alot better. On the way there stopped at Hoover Dam which built in 1935 is still one of the tallest Dam's ever built at 760ft high. It was the workmen building the Hoover Dam that went to Las Vegas and betted ... read more

Hawaii Arrived in the tropical Paradise of Hawaii, from Fiji, I know it's a hard life! Was strange as I had Sunday twice - We got told to put our watches back 22hrs when we arrived from Fiji, next time I'll make sure I get two Saturdays, and not two Sundays! I stayed just one block away from Waikiki beach in Honolulu, and spenty most of my 6 days here sunbathing and body boarding on the famous Hawaii surf. Went on a day trip to Pearl Harbour which like Honolulu is on the Island of Oahu. This was where the Japanese made a surprise arial attack on the US navy, and brought the US promptly into WWII (couple of years late though!!) for those who are bad at history. For those who don't know, what is ... read more

From New Zealand Fiji was just a 4.5 hr flight, but heading north again to the warmer climates. Fiji is made up of over 300 Islands, and I flew into the main airport Nadi on the Island of Vita Leva. I had been told leave Vita Leva ASAP, but the guys I had travelled here from NZ had booked a hotel on the south coast, a place called Beach House on the Coral Coast, so I decided to tag along with them. It was a 3hr bus ride along the coast from the airport to Coral Coast. The place was fantastic, but what was a bit weird was that we found out that the Hotel had been used for Celebrity Love Island II !! The Diary room or what ever it had still had the one ... read more

Carrying on the magic bus the route was: From South to North Island FerryWellingtonNapierLake TaupoMount MauganuiAuckland (where I fly to Fiji). Arrived onto the North Island by Ferry into New Zealands capital Wellington. Was a very picturesque ferry journey of about 4hrs from the south island to the North, arriving in the ferry port of Wellington near the city centre. Wellington was one of the few places in NZ that I had the luxury of staying for more than a night. Wellington Next day headed first "Te Papa" which is the Museum of New Zealand, this was an impressive museum with loads of interactive information and videos. Would have been easy to stay here for a whole day but after looking around the 6 floors for a couple of hours I headed out and onto Wellington's ... read more
