5 to7 August- Kinabatangan River and Sukao Rainforest lodge We are driven to the jetty in Sandakan where Borneo eco tours meet us to take us for the 2.5 hour trip by speedboat to Sukau. Sukao is a village on the Kinabatangan river, along which pockets of protected rainforest still exist despite that most of the surrounding land has been cleared both by loggers and for more oil palm plantations. Several endangered species congregate here, among them, Borneo pygmy elephants, orang utangs, clouded leopards, proboscis and other monkeys as well as many birds, reptiles and other small mammals. The lodge is an eco lodge, practising sustainable tourism which basically means no aircon, solar heated water (so hot showers for only a lucky few per day), no tv etc.They also use rechargeable electric engines on the motorboats
