Sue and Ron

We are 49 years of age and finally going on our trip of a lifetime. We both leave at home our three sons - each! We can't wait to explore the world together.

Well, this is Bourton-On-The-Water in the Cotswolds, the most gorgeous part of England we have visited, in fact when we first arrived and walked down to the water with it's cottages and little shops running along it, we felt quite emotional because it was just what we hoped for and more. We absolutely love it here and our cottage, with it's 16th century well in the front yard is an absolute gem. It is built of Cotswold stone of course and has the bathroom, little kitchen and cosy living room, with it's fireplace dominating the room downstairs, and two bedrooms upstairs. The floors downstairs are flagstone and are nice and sturdy, but the floors upstairs move and creak when you walk on them and you can literally roll jaffas from one side of the room to ... read more

This needs to be the quickest blog ever, as I have a date to go and see 'Sister Act' at the London Palladium on the West End tonight. I am typing away in an internet cafe while I have time before the show. This was a treat from Ron - sweet man that he is! We have had a wow of a time travelling down from Scotland. After our short time in Ireland we caught a flight from Belfast over to Edinburgh. The flight took only thirty minutes - the delays took well over an hour, but we finally arrived late in the evening. We didn't have any accommodation booked, so while we waited for our flight, we hopped on the internet at the airport and found ourselves a fancy hotel on one of the last ... read more

You've probably already heard it all before - Ireland is beautiful. Well, that's because it is true. We spent four short nights there on the first leg of our driving tour of the UK and it was gorgeous. We arrived in Belfast late in the afternoon and followed the hire car company's instructions on how to get a bus to the McCausland car park where the car would be found. Why Belfast? I hear you ask. Well, that is because we had to try to work out how to get over there on the day we wanted, at the time we wanted and at the price we wanted, and in the end the best way was to fly over to Belfast and drive from there. That all went very well, having been picked up by the ... read more

Hi from lovely Barcelona, Spain where we have been since yesterday evening. We spent a couple of days in Bordeaux which didnĀ“t turn out to be one of our favourite destinations. We had thought we were going somewhere special but to be honest, the whole city looked like it could do with a good bath with itsĀ“buildings covered in pollution. France is very dog friendly, but the friendship gets pushed when dogs rule the city as it does there. Dogs are allowed everywhere, including on public transport and in restaurants and their droppings are all over the place. You have to look down as you walk because you are constantly dodging the stuff. There were also lots of smokers there and as you are dodging the doggy droppings you are also weaving in between the smokers ... read more

If you are getting sick of looking at pretty places then look away now folks. Dinan is a very old town in Brittany and is full of character and old houses. We were lucky enough to rent one of the oldest houses in the town for four nights. To think this house was built in 1386 and is still standing today with some original features still in place like the exposed beams on the third floor is amazing. It even existed before the fortified walls of the city were built so that is pretty impressive. The house sits on a corner and it is believed it started out as either a candle making shop or a weaving business. Its' last commercial use was as a Cider House until 1960 which is why it is called Le ... read more

I have one word for this town - delightful! We arrived in Bayeux, Normandy on Thursday after our stay in Paris. As usual this train trip was efficient and comfortable and very reasonably priced. After a reasonably short walk we found our guesthouse, El Castro which was almost too good to be true. As it turned out, it was indeed true and this stunning house was ours to share, even it it was only for two nights. It is hard to pick the age of the house and since the owner only spoke French it was hard to ask her any questions. Nonetheless she was a very gracious host and she ran a fabulous business. You'll get an idea of its' beauty in todays photos. Bayeux, in Normandy is quite an historical town, having survived the ... read more

Europe March 24th 2010

Hi everyone from gay Par-is where we have been greeted by beautiful spring sunshine, enabling us to shed the coats and scarves and enjoy the weather as we walk through the city. We arrived on Monday afternoon after farewelling our Rotterdam hosts. After walking out of the station, we had our first real incident with the map. Oh yes, the map boy got it wrong! After a flawless performance so far, we ended up heading off in completely the wrong direction. Worse still, two ladies came up to us and asked for help and Ron told them that THEY went the wrong way when they left the station and sent them back to where they came from and told them to take another turn - sorry ladies, he was wrong! Anyway, I can't be cross with ... read more

Hi Folks from the beautiful city of Paris. We have just arrived here yesterday after spending three memorable nights in Holland. Ron treated us to a first class trip from Salzburg to Amsterdam on an overnight train. We had to change trains in Munich (so now we claim to have also been there) and then we then hopped into our sleeper cabin with ensuite bathroom. Very luxurious and very small, but it was a nice way to travel. We arrived in Amsterdam Friday morning after a reasonable night's sleep (helped along with Uncle Corry's special travel lollies) and set about to taking in the sights of the city. It was a pretty ordinary kind of day, raining pretty much the whole time we were there and rather cold. We managed to find ourselves around the city ... read more

Well, this is going to be an experience in itself. I have given up on the hotel's computer because it is and difficult to type on,especially because it has a German keyboard and the letters are in different places. I am now moving onto a micro keyboard and typing on Ron's iPhone. Should do wonders for the tennis elbow, but here goes. We had our last day in Italy yesterday and whilst we were a bit sad about that, it was also exciting to know we were moving onto another country. We spent most of the day on Venice as our bus wasn't leaving till 3.20 pm. We once again walked around the city dodging bag sellers and beggars and walked into lots of shops just in case we needed to buy one more keepsake. We ... read more

Well we are here in Venice and having a great time. Ron made an early call and claimed Venice as his favourite place so far - within about half an hour of arriving. He hasn't changed his mind yet so he must be right. I think it was the sight of the water and boats as soon as we walked out of the train station. He loves his water and boats (and maps), so here he gets all three at once. We have spent the last couple of days walking and walking around Venice taking in the sights. It is nice not to have to dodge the traffic and maniac drivers, but instead here you have to dodge the dog doo doos because there are a lot of dogs and not much grass, so it has ... read more
