Vegas, here we come What a great morning, the hues and colours of the nearby canyon walls are beautiful with their changing tones. We walk across the road do our laundry, have some breakfast and leave Springdale heading towards Vegas via the Valley of Fire and it looks like another warm day ahead us as the scenery starts to change from lush green trees and grass to a dry arid landscape and as we head into the Valley of Fire we are surrounded by rocks of a glorious deep red in colour, some are laced with multi layers of white clay slicing through the red, it looks hot and it is hot! We stop at a rest point to admire the beauty and there are ground squirrels everywhere running around searching for shade, they run in the ... read more

A beautiful sunrise awaits and Steve is up early to get some Sunrise Photos and I'm up with him and make some coffee. Whilst out getting some sunrise snaps, Steve stumbles across a desert Tarantula that was baking on the path, why he has to show me I have no idea, but he was in his element and it's what he has been hoping for and although he's a little disappointed because ideally he would like to have a picture of one crawling over his hand!, it's made his day. Good luck with that one Steve, because when that happens I will be off like a shot! We say goodbye to Monument Valley and now head towards Zion National Park, we stop at Antelope Canyon and take a tour of the lower Antelope Canyon on foot, ... read more

Another early morning as we head towards Monument Valley, Utah/Arizona and as we leave the Grand Canyon the scenery changes from glorious green forests and pastures to a dry arid landscape. Along the roadside there are Indian stalls set up selling thier wares, and as we approach the Valley, we site large sandstone formations reaching hundreds of feet into the air. We enter The Navajo Tribal Park and again it is bloody hot, tourist everywhere and the landscape is breathtaking. We arrive just on lunchtime and are unable to book into our room until 3 o'clock, we sit outside and have some lunch while Indian flute music is played in the background, it sounds so peaceful and spiritual and a serene calmness engulfs me, the stress and worry of the outside world disappears and I feel ... read more

The Canyon We wake to a beautiful crisp morning and after breakfast we take a short trip to Desert View on the Canyon Rim, each look out has a different view of the canyon. We arrive at the Lookout Tower at Desert View and its amazing, this Canyon is so huge you you cannot help but be amazed by its beauty, we take lots of snaps then head back to our room and on the way stop by a little picnic ground to have some lunch, omg, the wasps are really starting to annoy me, I put the lid on my lunch and sit in the car while Steve goes and does his snapping in the bush. Back at the motel, we relax before heading off to go on a 45min Helicopter flight over the Canyon, ... read more

Route 66 Up very early today and its still bloody hot! Grand Canyon here we come! We travel along Route 66, the roads are old and windy and it's not helping my anxiety, but I push on. We are just about to pull into the old gold mining town of Oatman and we can't get through because the road is blocked by Donkeys, we stop the car and next thing we know a donkey has his head in the driver's side window wanting a pat, they're so cute...... ok donkeys go away now we need to get through, no seriously, enough donkeys! Next thing we know we have a few other cars behind us a man gets out and says he needs to get through and starts to shoo them away, we drive about 400 metres ... read more

Oasis in the middle of nowhere Another morning, a goods night sleep and Steve is up early to take some pictures of the sunrise, our room faces a street with low profile Spanish style adobe buildings and for some reason it brings on a peacefulness. We get some breakfast at the motel and it's good, Steve especially likes the omellet with cheese! It's starting to get warm as we head out to the Joshua Tree National Park and we're amazed at the size of the huge rocks here, just amazing. There are Joshua Trees everywhere and there quite unusual, little skinks are running about the place and its very barren except for the Joshua Trees, which looks like a cross between a cactus and a tree! There are people rock climbing, picnicking and bike riding, seriously I ... read more

Rocks,Valleys,Deserts and apple pie Another early day....... it's killing me! We set out early to miss the traffic and today we're off to Twentynine Palms CA with a few detours on the way. We detour off to Julian, a lovely little town which is known for its famous Apple Pie, we stop for breakfast and the cafe is all decked out like something out of the prairie, it is amazing and of course had to get an Apple Pie. The drive from San Diego to Julian has taken us through some lovely countryside with rolling hills with small forested areas in between, but, we've now left Julian and the surroundings are changing and it starts with a few big boulders here and there and now we're travelling through some of the rockiest, barren country side we ... read more

San Diego Zoo,Balboa Park and Fuddruckers Up early and off to San Diego Zoo and first stop is Balboa Park, it's very pretty and we visit the Japanese garden, it's so quiet and serene and very relaxing. Steve's very excited, what he thought in the distant were large Dragon Flies are actually Humming birds and he tries get a few shots. We come across the funniest sight, a little golf buggy went past us, it was a police patrol vehicle with 2 elderly citizens driving it and we had to look twice, we could not stop laughing, how were they going to stop a criminal. Later that day we saw another patrol car (a real one) on the same block, instead of LAPD Patrol Car on it, it had RSVP which stands for Retired Senior Volunteer ... read more

Had a little sleep in today......yeah!, after breakfast we make our way to La Brae tar pits, mmmm, there is a story to this trip. As you know in the USA you drive on the opposite side of the road (well,to us it's opposite), and in some carparks in LA they have spikes along the driveways for those drivers who try drive in the wrong way, Now, you know what I'm going to tell you, right, yep you guessed it, Steve for some reason went into the left lane and the parking attendant, a little man came running out of his little hut yelling STOP STOP, oh no, to late and Steve drive over the spikes, "oh oh, 2 flat tyres", the two front wheels went straight over the spikes. We get the car to a ... read more

A Day at Universal Studios Day 2 of our Holiday begins with Homemade waffles that I made myself, yes that's right, even on holidays you can still cook, well ok, truth is the motel we are staying at provides breaky 2 doors down, everything from cereal to hot food is supplied, and you can even make your own waffles, mmmm, they were delicious. After breakfast we're off to Universal Studio and thanks to Steve we have the VIP tour, well worth the money and we're very lucky as there were only 5 on the tour. We never had to wait in a line, we got to see behind the scenes, Wisteria Lane etc., I did not like the haunted house and I definitely squealed like a girl. We stop for lunch which was provided, prawns, scallops, ... read more
